Rider: Kyle Grondzik
A toeside shuv-it to indy is a trick that shows how crazy wakeskating can be. The rider approaches the wake as if he will perform a toeside wake jump. When leaving the wake, about to take flight, the rider does a backside shuv-it so that the board spins 180 degrees under the rider in mid air. The rider then catches the board with an indy grab and places the board back under his feet to prepare for the landing.
Prerequisties
Before landing the toeside shuv-it to indy you should be able to do the following things:
1. Jump wake to wake toeside.
2. Comfortably grab the board on a toeside wake jump.
3. Be able to backside shuv-it.
Performing the trick
Watch this trick as a Windows Media movie (1.44MB).
Come in to the wake toeside from about 10-15 feet outside the wake. Begin your cut with both hands on the handle to initiate a strong edge. Let go with your back hand about half way through your cut so it is free to grab the board.
You will want to pop your ollie up more than across. As you come off the wake, kick the shuv-it around by kicking your back leg to the boat and suck your legs up to get them out of the way.
When the board comes around grab it indy and place it under your feet. Try and grab the board as soon as possible.
The board will come off of the wake with the nose higher than the tail. At this point stay with it and keep bending your knees allowing the board to rise up with you in the air. When you reach the peak of the jump, the board will level out and you will start to descend. Start to look for your landing and prepare yourself for the impact.
You want to try and take this trick wake to wake so that landing on the second wake's transition will help with the landing. Try to land with your weight over your toes.
Style additions
1. Stall it out
2. Take it big
Moving On
1. Shuv-it tail grab
2. Add a frontside 180
