Frontside Bigspin
Author & Rider: Chris Bryan

When you are ready to get more technical on your wakeskate, then it is time to try a frontside bigspin. You may now be asking yourself, "What is a frontside bigspin". A frontside bigspin is a frontside 360 shuv-it with a frontside 180 body varial. Nothing to it! The best way to prepare for this trick is to get frontside 180 and 360 shuv-its dialed in and also practice some frontside body varials and frontside ollie 180's. Remember to keep your eyes on your board, jump forward and not just straight up and keep your feet out of the way until it is time to catch the board.

Prerequisties
Before landing the frontside bigspin you should be able to do the following things:
1. Be able to land an ollie 180.
2. Be able to land a frontside 360 shuv-it.
3. Be able to land a frontside body varial.

Performing the trick
Watch this trick as a Windows Media movie (2.57MB).

  • Start off about 10 feet outside of the wake on your heelside. Be sure to get some slack in the rope to give yourself some time to perform the trick before the boat begins to pull you back into the wake. As you flatten off, take your front hand off of the handle and kick the frontside 360 shuv-it. You will need to kick the 360 shuv-it harder than a 180 shuv-it to get the board all the way around.

    Frontside Bigspin

  • As you kick the shuv-it, open your shoulders a bit to begin your body's rotation to fakie. Suck your feet up to keep them out of the board's way while it spins. Try to watch the board during this trick to help with your landing and remember to let the board do a full 360 before stomping the landing.

    Frontside Bigspin

  • As the board finishes the last 180, try and follow it and stomp the landing so that you are riding fakie. The rope will help you rotate the body varial. You need to really try to land over your toes to ride it out on the toeside edge.
