Battle Falls

Stop #3 of The Wakeskate Tour

Groveland, Florida

The clouds parted and the storm dissipated this weekend in Central Florida to bring us some of the best weather we’ve had all year on The Wakeskate Tour. Battle Falls once again proved that wakeskaters are working for it. Reed Hansen pulled out all the stops as he hosted Stop #3. The backdrop of lakes and rows of palm trees provided an amazing setting for the event.

However, the real story here is Reed Hansen and the sweep he pulled at Battle Falls. Reed proved at Retention that he was playing for keeps with a first place win, putting himself in a great position in this years points race, but spent most of the next month building out the site for Battle Falls. Countless man-hours on the bobcat and in the trenches kept Reed off the water for the majority of that break. Reed came out firing in the Supra boat event taking the win in both the boat contest and boat best trick. Reed continued this trend into The Wakeskate Tour main event, winning his heat in the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and then the “hat trick”, coming out on top in the finals, making it a $7000 weekend for Reed. This was no easy feat as every rider in the finals had ample opportunity for a place on the podium. Andrew Pastura was hammering out shuvit-to-front boards all day and in the finals he followed one up by blasting an amazing backside flip up the chute. Nick Taylor had the best switch kickflip down the 5 ft drop anyone has ever seen, but failed to land his hardflip back up the gap to complete the line. Ben Horan took another second-place finish proving he’s the most consistent guy on tour, dropping a frontside flip down the drop to a heelflip up, both of them popped, flicked, and stomped. In the end, it was Reed Hansen who came out on top with a sold frontside heelflip down the drop, and a varial flip back up to take the win. It was an amazing event with a great crowd and another true testament to the progression of wakeskating.

After Battle Falls, the race continues and after an ankle injury earlier in the week, Austin Pastura (who shared a first-place ranking with Horan), had to sit out. Ben locked down another second-place finish, putting him in the first-place position overall. The race will continue on August 11th at the Texas Ski Ranch for Stop #4, The Obscura Championships. We want to thank all of our sponsors for supporting us at Battle Falls- Rockstar Energy Drink, Fox, Supra, Ronix, Sesitec, and Chic-Fil-A. Huge thanks to the riders and fans for the support and most of all to the Hansen's for providing such an immaculate site for us to spend the weekend.

We would also like to add how stoked we are to see Matt Manzari back on a board this weekend for the first time since being severely injured at the Toe Jam Boat event. By Sunday afternoon, he was already throwing impressive lines up & down the gap with a huge smile on his face. Like he never missed a beat.
