Continuing with our Remote wakeskates interview series, here are some thoughts from Andrew Pastura about the new Remote line.
Describe the design features on your pro model wakeskate. (The concave, kicktails, edge/rail profile, etc.)
Andrew: All three of us collaborated on the design of these boards and chose different sizes to our liking. Our concave is a little steeper than most boards, and we added some thickness to our kicktails. This adds a little height to the board giving it a great feel all around, and for tricks that require your foot to slightly hang off the board. The rails are hand shaped to be a softer in the middle and sharper on the edges. This helps the board sit well in the water and responsive for edging and turning.
What performance features were you trying to achieve while designing your pro model?
Andrew: I just wanted a solid wooden board that feels good and looks good under my feet. No gimmicks, no bullshit features.
There's been some talk about Remote's rocker line. What makes it different from other wakeskates out there, and what do you like about it?
Andrew: The rocker line makes these boards what they are. It's a 3 stage rocker that sits perfectly in the water and has tons of pop. From trying other smaller boards I've realized this rocker drags a lot less and is a perfect fit for the size board I perfer to ride.
The Remote team is recognized for their abilities on rails and natural terrain as much as anything else. What did you guys do to ensure the boards would withstand your level of riding and the abuse your boards go through?
Andrew: We put a lot of love into these boards and demanded them to be as strong as possible. Knowing that our boards sometimes fly directly into a concrete walls going 20-30 miles a hour we chose wood. Our boards will slightly dent where as a composite might explode at the seam. Most importantly, each board is handmade in the USA by wakeskaters using the best products possible.
For someone who's looking to buy a new wakeskate, what would you want them to know about the Remote line?
Andrew: Remote is here for you and here to stay!
