Wakeskaters Flock To The Second Stop of the Spanky Beaver Jib Jam

Stop #2 of Spanky Beaver’s Jib Jam has come and gone. This event, which has expanded over the years to four stops annually, serves as a unique opportunity for wakeboarders and wakeskaters to come together and build a rail park inside of a swimming pool. Riders of all skill levels can session the rails without having to worry about rushing or sketchiness or the bust factor that often accompanies a winch session.

And it isn’t your typical wake event where wakeboarders own the show, either. Wakeskaters have always been given the freedom of building their own rail, and for this event a flat bar was made to accompany the rooftop rail and A-frame. This was a bit of a departure from the norm since most of the previous events have featured an incline rail. But I doubt anyone was disappointed about the switch since the flat bar presented a great opportunity for riders to try lock in tricks for the first time, and if they wanted something more there was a nice mellow rooftop rail right next to it.

The event lasted all weekend, and featured such non-wakeskating items as a hotdog eating contest, a whole bunch of local bands, a premiere of wake DVD Global Warning, a delicious taco truck and a few tents that were thrown up by some of the out of town riders who just didn’t feel like going home.

This Spanky Beaver’s stop took place at Cunningham Pool in Vallejo, California. The next stop will also take place at Cunningham Pool and will happen on August 7-9th. Then it’s back to McKinley Park in Sacramento to close out the 2009 season. More information about future events can be found at Spanky Beaver’s own myspace page- www.myspace.com/spankybeaver.
