Oak Wakeskates Stays Classic For 09Author: Wakeskating.com Staff

Mikey and the crew at Oak Wakeskates are entering their fourth year of production, and their future looks as promising as ever. For 2009, they have put together a solid wakeskate line-up with sizes that will cater to all kinds or riders. The shapes of the decks have been proven over time, so much so that much of what you will see will be carry-over shapes from 2008. This isn't a bad thing, because they've decided to keep what's working instead of tinkering in order to list a new product feature for a wakeskate. But, if you're looking for something a little different, like maybe a shorter, wider wakeskate, then you'll want to keep an eye out on the new Oak Chubby.
At any rate, here's everything you need to know about Oak's 2009 lineup. Read the article, and then take a look at the Oak photo gallery to see the design features that make each board different from the next.
The Oak Wakeskate Line-up for 2009: Changes and Discontinued Boards
The wakeskate that was originally Ben Horan's pro model is one of three major board design changes in Oak's wakeskate line-up. Last year's Horan pro model wakeskate had a tight concave that was more effective, especially for those of us who have smaller feet (the flat spot in the concave was only 3 inches wide). However, Ben didn't like that board as much the Team model (and in general, the Team model seems to be a favorite among may Oak riders). So, for 2009 Ben took on a version of the Team shape for his pro model. The difference is that this board will not come with udders, unlike Oak's official Team wakeskate.
New for 2009 is Oak's graphic sublimation process. The inks are actually a part of the bottom layer of the wakeskate. Take in that wood grain look!

Another change to Oak's wakeskate line is the addition of a completely new design. Nowadays, decks are getting shorter, which makes it easier for riders to spin the board for shuvit variations or flip tricks.
Enter the Chubby. This board is like a Team deck (See, I told you that board was popular!) cut down to 39 inches, but the design features are scaled for a 39 inch deck. Also, the Chubby wakeskate has a fatter nose and tail, but the width is the same as the Team board.

Finally, It's also worth mentioning that the Oak Pool Deck is no longer in the product line. The Pool Deck was the only flat deck in Oak's wakeskate line, and it became a favorite among riders simply because it was a fun wakeskate. This board took on the shape of an old school skateboard from the 80's, making it impossible for anyone to take themselves too seriously while riding it. At the Expo back in September, they did have six limited edition Pool Deck models, but alas, consider this classic board focused and tossed in the trash. (For now!)
Classic in so many ways!
Beyond the changes among those three designs, Oak will have their 40 inch Chiken Thief, a 41 inch Pit Spitter, a 42 inch Filthy Belcher, and their beloved Team Deck. Again, all of these shapes will remain the same as they were in 08, except now they all have a 45 degree edge.

Oak Accessories
For 2009, Oak is continuing their fin accessory line that also has the same shape from 08, but the 09 colorway is going to blast your retinas. The Udder is a half-moon shaped fin addition designed for locked-in noseslides, tailslides, and bluntslide variations, etc. and the Rebar, which is similar to a traditional wakeskate fin. Both are made of a material similar to that of a bowling ball. This material makes them really durable and easy to slide when you're hitting an obstacle. They also have a star-shaped insert for durability. My favorite part about these accessories is the color. For 2009, blaze orange is the name of the game. While I'm not a deer hunter, I do love that bright orange, so I think Oak has chosen a winner.
