Tucked away along a far side of the convention center floor at the 2008 Surf Expo was the UGP booth. Modest in size, its blazing red walls were covered in the latest UGP had to offer, and they wanted you to see it.
The day prior to my official introduction to the 2009 line, I asked UGP's wake sales coordinator, Cason Lehman, to hand pick a few products he thought wakers of all kinds just might like. Of course, this is like asking a mother to choose her favorite child. Secretly, I think my mother can pick favorites, but I know Cason is quite different. However, my camera was low on space so he managed to select some items for me to check out and bring back to you.
I think the most notable piece of information is that UGP is now producing life vests that are made specifically for riding. The vests are available in four different colorways, but each vest style is produced in a coast guard and non-coast guard version, which brings the line to eight vests. Keeping the variety theme running is the colorway selection, which runs from tame to wild (either zebra wild, or neon wild), which helps suit the tastes that run the spectrum. The vest's outer material is neoprene, and they utilize a front zip design. That way, your vest won't come over your head when you take a hard crash. The vests are also lightweight, and kept comfort in mind.

Wakeskaters like boardshorts, and UGP produces boardshorts. For 2009, things are looking red hot with four boardshorts in two colorways each. These shorts were kept comfortable with a 100% polyester construction and a tagless design.

There's also a wet/dry short, which is something you can wear in the water or out on the street. Of course, you can also do that with boardshorts, but these have a different style. It's not quite businss casual, but it doesn't look like a traditional boardshort, either.

Finally, I also checked out the wakeskate shoes. For 2009, the colorways will remain the same, but rest assured, new colors are in the pipeline. However, I've been sworn to secrecy so I cannot share the "whats" and "whens" from that conversation. And I take that sort of thing very serious.

Of course, UGP makes a wide variety of soft goods, from denim to t-shirts and hoodies. We really only scratched the surface of UGP's product line, but we also think that you'll really like what we've picked out.
