Devotid Unveils New Movement V2 ConcaveAuthor: Kevin Westendorf

Well, the ice is melted and the season is in full swing here at Devotid Wakeskates. We have finished up the new Movement V2 Concave wakeskate and are excited to say that it's time to show the Wakeskating.com community. This is one of three skates we've been working on for the 09 line up. I have tried not to yap too much about the new things we've been up to and if you have ever met me, you would realize how hard that is for me not to talk.
Our main concern right from the start was creating a wood concave wakeskate that rode with the wonderful feel of wood but lasted like that 30 year old waterski that your uncle still rides. A couple years ago i was out in Bellingham, WA riding at Bow Lake with some friends. Our ride was running late, so I was killing time looking through a closet full of old waterskis and stumbled on some old aluminum topped, plastic "molded" skis. I thought Hmmmmnnnnnn....... these things are built like tanks. Good flex......not too heavy.....and when I rubbed the ski on the cement it just wore away a bit. What it didn't do was open up any glue lines or layers to de-lamination. Something that's crucial nowadays, when hitting nasty rails and cement ledges.
Throughout this process, we tried three different kinds of wood, four different kinds of core foam, countless epoxy/plastic combos, three different kinds of re-shapable edges, about ten different shapes and a couple different rail-loving base materials. When it was all over, we went with a 12 ply pressed wood core, 5 lb density molded foam core, rock hard molded transparent re-shapable edge, 30 oz's of fiberglass and PBT graphic base on the bottom. But all-in-all our main concern was true wood feel with super durability.
We will be releasing a run of these new skates in the next couple weeks before Sept. Surf Expo with limited edition graphics. Stay tuned for more info and pics at www.devotid.com. Just click on the button labeled "Kevin's Notes" on the main page for full size pics and more instructions on how to get your own.
Oh yeah remember this is just our new concave......I can't wait to spill the beans on the completely re-designed bilevels for 2009.
