Reed Hansen Wins Tige Pro-Am

Date: 10-23-2007
Author: Wakeskating.com Staff

From October 19-21, La Isla Mall in Cancun, Mexico saw the Tige Pro-Am wakeboarding and wakeskating event come and go. Represented wakeskating divisions included the amateurs, women, and professionals.

The first day of the event hosted the professional wakeskate quarterfinals and the women's wakeskating. Even though all riders from both divisions would move on through to the next day's rounds, the top rider from heat one of the pro wakeskate quarterfinals was Nick Taylor, and the top rider from heat two was Reed Hansen. This would not be the last time these names would be in these positions, and I can only imagine a fury of electrifying on-the-water madness ensued. (With judo chops playing on in my head for extra action. Or wake to wake Judos. Whichever.) From the women's side of things Megan McNeill was the top rider in her gender specific heat.

Day 1 Results (10-19-2007)

Pro Wakeskate Quarterfinals

Heat #1

1. Taylor, Nick (USA) 67.00
2. Balzer, James (CAN)53.67
3. Grubb, Brian (USA) 44.00

Heat #2
1. Hansen, R. (USA) 66.67
2. Kaiser, Ben (USA) 56.67
3. McGuckin, Drew (USA) 43.33

Women Wakeskate Quarterfinals

1. McNeil, Megan (USA) - 63.33
2. Talansky, Elizabeth - 53.33
3. Menkin, Lacey - 40.00

The second day of the Tige Pro-Am allowed the professional and women's divisions to take care of their unresolved business on the water once again, with Nick and Reed landing in the top spots in heats one and two, and having to face off one last time for Sunday's finals (which took the top two riders from said heats). Megan McNeil "did work" and finished her weekend off with a win in the women's division. However, the amateur division was also present on day two, and Bobby Sutherland earned himself a top spot.

Day Two Results (10-20-2007)

Women Wakskate Finals

1. McNeil, Megan (USA) 75.00

1. Hansen, R. (USA) 85.00

3. Kaiser, Ben (USA) 56.67

Amateur Wakeskate Semifinals

1. Sutherland, Bobby (USA) 100.00
2. Prizer, Ben (USA) 99.00

All good things must come to an end, and such was the case for the Tige Pro-Am. For Sunday's amateur finals, Bobby Sutherland rode his way to the top spot once again. The professional wakeskate finals saw James Balzer land himself in a respectable 4th place position. Wake Games winner Brian Grubb placed 3rd, while the weekend's consistent stand out Nick Taylor wound up with 2nd place. Reed Hansen capped off his "World Cup" event streak, previously winning the WWA Nationals and Worlds, with his win at the Pro-Am.
