Quarterfinal Results From The 2007 WWA Wakeskating NationalsDate: 06-22-2007
Author: Wakeskating.com Staff
Today the male wakeskaters of the professional contingent hit the water for the WWA Wakeskating Nationals in Pleasant Prarie, Wisconsin. Unfortunately for them (and every other division of the day, minus the professional women wakeboarders), Lake Andrea copped a 'tude, which was best expressed through hours of her choppy waters. But both Lake Andrea and Mother Nature are ladies, and sometimes we get sassy like that.
Despite the relentless chop, the riders churned out respectable performances, and some handled the chop better than others. Confidence in their consistency also shined through for a couple of riders, as the chop took them down at least twice on the same trick, only for the riders to have the final say as they rode away from the trick that was their destiny.
The Rundown:
Matt Manzari's re-entry varial flip--Hawt!!
Reed Hansen's frontside three (Which he landed after falling twice.)--Hawt!!
Stu Shinn's "amplitude" and his backside bigs in the flats--Hawt!!
Chase Gregory's nose grabbed switch frontside 180 off the kicker and a frontside grabbed wake to wake shuv--Hawt!
Brandon Thomas' frontside bigspin in the flats--Hawt!!
David Hanson's lazy style and his frontside 180 linked to a backside 180 (He too fell twice on a trick--a frontside 180--before claiming it for the ultimate redemption.)
When the day was done, the top two riders from each heat moved on to Saturday's semifinal round, which is set to take place at 9.30 a.m. Hopefully the riders will be greeted by calm waters and clear skies...but in Wisconsin, you just never know. In fact, if you decide to come and spectate, don't be afraid to bring a sweatshirt along.
Oh, besides the wakeskating, one other sweet sight was this dog that was diving for rocks and bringing them to shore. I don't know about you, but I've never seen a dog surface dive for anything in the water, let alone rocks and weeds. But I guess there's a first time for everything...but is there a better place than Lake Andrea?
