The Search Is Over By: Dave Barousse
Since the late 1980's, my copy of Powell Peralta's skateboarding video, "The Search For Animal Chin" has been missing. After realizing that my tape was gone, I completely lost my ability to skateboard and could no longer pull off wicked sweet moves like a tic tac or a cat walker. I had no other choice but to put my Steve Caballero board into retirement until the video tape was found.
Unfortunately for me, I didn't have a high speed internet connection at the time to simply hop on my computer and download the famous flick. Heck, I didn't even have a drivers license yet. So unless Santa Clause was going to bring me a new copy of the video, it would be gone forever.
Since then, I have gotten back on the skateboard, but it just isn't the same any more. I am able to pull off the wicked hard tricks mentioned earlier, but my skating just doesn't feel complete....until now!
In a quest to find the missing video, we put the whole team at Wakeskating.com (plus some dude that always hangs out with us but nobody really knows his name) on an all point bulletin for the Animal Chin video.
We had a close call at a store on Bourbon Street in New Orleans just a short few weeks ago as we found a brand new copy of the film that was still in the original wrapping. The search was almost over until we got to the cash register and the clerk gave us a total of $50.00 for the old favorite. I was shocked and didn't have that kind of change to spend on the movie, although my heart was set on it.
Finally, I came through for the team and I found the video online. I had to download a copy of it and it isn't exactly a perfect recording, but it was free and it works! I then realized that I could have gotten this video from just about any video store for about 20 bucks, but that isn't the point here so don't even say anything about that!
Hopefully my skating will be brought back to life as I am now able to go back to my roots and enjoy the best skate video of all time, "The Search For Animal Chin".
