Happened in the england in 2005, the only public lake in the country where you could wakeskate, board and waterski got a 10mph blank speed limit.
Keep fighting your corner and never give up! We're behind you over here!
People are still fighting here, and a lot of people are just ignoring the ban! which for one thing has got rid of a lot of the weekend worriors with too much money, buying boats then being let loose on a lake with no idea what they are doing (about the only slight positive).
Funnily enough wakesurfing has grown in popularity, bet then did not expect people to make the wakes any bigger at slower speeds!
Keep fighting, and post any petition links on here, i'll sign for one! |

That is going on here in Austin....I thought it was more for wakesurfing...
either way the local dealers and I are looking into what can be done.
I think it started because the LCRA put a new restriction on how lake owners had to build retaining walls.
I can see where a number of austin companies would be hurt by this. _________________ Wakeskating

| Quote: | Anyone that enjoys surfing on Lake Austin will want to attend the City Council meeting Oct 28 to defend our sport. Here is an email that has been sent out to ALL lakeside residents in an effort to ban wakesurfing. For people that don’t know any better, it sounds pretty convincing. This would be a terrible thing if it happen. Lake Austin is the breeding ground for the the progression of the sport. Read the email that is being circulated to all residents….
The city of Austin will be voting on this, I believe, on Oct 28th. As lake property owners we would have expected a notice from the city regarding the proposed changes.
The impact from the water ballasts of some boats has, in my opinion, significantly increased the deterioration of our retaining walls and property along the lake. I have lived on the main body for 8 years and have noticed the speed of the land/wall deterioration increasing much faster in just the past few years as never before. I do not believe the “city scientists” conclusions and feel that it is an inappropriate decision to ask us to alter the way we construct our retaining walls. I believe the city of Austin city counsel is shifting a huge burden to us, the property owners, to adjust for an inconclusive finding.
I have pictures of our land “melting” into the water and our retaining walls being eroded. Our daughter is swimming in a 3 foot wave pool out in the lake when these ballast boats go by, sometimes 6 feet from our boat dock, if not closer. I also have pictures taken from this past weekend of some of the fish caught from our property-over 20 Carp, Bass and Gar over 20lbs and some over 30lbs. The fish seem to be fine and the waves from these boats are causing significant damage.
I feel we need to attend this meeting as Lake Austin property owners to make sure we are aware what the city counsel is planning/proposing to do.
Please forward to all Lake Austin property owners please so they are also aware of what is being proposed.

They want to ban ballasts in boats. Biggest complaint is about wakesurfing. |

That's what I was thinking. But this is not even being considered. They are discussing design standards for the bulkheads on the lake. That's all, no one is trying to get anything banned. |
