For those of you who do skate on a regular basis, how great would you say it influences your wakeskating?

It influences your wakeskating alot, I quit skateboading to start wakeskating but after year I took up skateboarding again. I do both equal but I skateboard more on weekdays. I have learned a lot of new tricks and my overall style has changed for the good. I would reccomend all you hardcore wakeskaters to pick up a skateboard it will definently help. Also most of the leading pros skateboard (G.D. Aaron Reed, Thomas Horell, Danny Hampson etc...)

i think it helped alot! look at all the pros like Re-entry said, and id say most people on this site, had or still do skateboard. i dont think i would have learned to shuv as fast as i did if i didnt skateboard. Cuz my friend brad never skateboarded and he cant land shuvs ever. like he cant spin them.

Surfing (for those who have the opportunity) helps your wakeskating sooooo much also...

I think skating helps, but there have been riders that proved you don't HAVE to skate in order to be a good wakeskater. As someone said (I think) just about any sideways boardsport will help. I can tell that from my old wakeboarding seasons, to my snowboarding seasons and now to wakeskating and skating, they've all helped me improve with balance and riding switch and what not. It's a really good feeling, actually.

Nick, how has your surfing helped your wakeskating (like in what ways)? I dont' surf so I can't put myself in your shoes. Is part of it balance and stuff? (tribal once gave me a mini lesson about flowing on the water and re-entries, but I'd like to hear what you have to say.) I've always wanted to surf, and someday, I will! (and not behind a boat, you sissys:)

It's mostly about feeling the board and (can't say this without sounding like a hippie) "being one with the board". Surfing cannot be accomplished with bad style, so it totally improves that area of wakeskating. As for re-entrys, surfing can only help if you can air on a surfboard (wayyyyyy harder than anyone thinks). Flowing is necessary to ride a wave, so that adds to style as well. I don't think I would be anywhere near as good of a wakeskater if I had never surfed. It made me comfortable on the water and gave me a new perspective on the water that most (even I) don't understand

If and when you go, say good bye to your old life, because it will grip you and change your life forever... kinda like wakeskating Cool

Nick Taylor, if you had not put that hippie waver in there i would have surely accused you of being one.

any boardsport that requires balance will help you wakeskating. wakeskating will also help you in other boardsports too just because of balance. indoboards are a great way to practice, even if its just with an old skate deck on an old soda bottle.

I started skateboarding as an off water/bordom activity and now I'm starting to have more fun doing that. Its just alot easier to go skateboard whenever you want and not have to worry about finding people to go with and boats and water conditions. Its much more relaxed, for me anyways.

So yea, pick up a skateboard, you'll probably like it.

yea all my friends that skate caut on pretty fast and have really good style. But my friends that caught on super quick and have good style and i think is more similiar to wakeskateing as far as throwing tricks is skimboarding... i blame skimboarding for being able to do all my switch tricks cause i used to skim right foot foward and i cant do half the stuff switch on a skateboard that i can do on the water....

I skate more than i wakeskate, but if i could, i would definately wakeskate more. I have no friends that wakeskate, but i landed my first shuv the other day, and i have been out like maybe... 10 times or less. I don't think i would have gotten it that soon if it weren't for skating. I personally thing skateboarding has gone fiznackling gay, because now theres like a thousand million little poser kids, and then theres the cocky ones who think they are better than everyone, and then theres the cocky ones that actually are better than everyone, but they are still gay. and then theres only a few people, who are just there, skating, usually better than the cocky kids, but they basically don't talk because every time they do, they get bitched at because they aren't all in your face about everything. It fiznackling makes me sick... Sad Confused Crying or Very sad Mad

Good thing we have wakeskating Very Happy

HatzicScape112, - Definately buy a snowskate... i have a Burton Bridge and its sweet to just mess around in the backyard with. It has the loose feel of a snowboard but rides like a skateboard deck; you can practice your shuvs and ollies when the lake is frozen over. You can also use those cheap skateboard rails to slide as well as boxes and make a mini park.

WS.com: Do you guys find that skateboarding helps your wakeskating?

Thomas: Uhh, yes, if you would like to believe that, yes.

Tim: Skateboarding, with a tech deck?

Cole: If you wakeskate and you can't skateboard, you're a poser.
