I got a new 5.5 hp honda motor for dirt cheap.. and a mechanic who says he can work on it to get the full power out of it.. wondering if you think this will work good enough.. also wondering whats a good gear ratio for it.. and width and diameter for the spool.

He probably will just adjust the governor spring allowing the engine to open all the way up, it is very simple to do yourself.

I run a 6hp briggs with a tav2 12/68 gear ratio with an 8inch diameter spool that is like 6 inches wide and about 15inches across.

Cool

you will still be able to start off a sliding start, like a piece of pvc, with a centrifugal clutch. high torque starts like acid dropping might give you issues. Im not sure if you would be able to start sittin on a chair or not, guess it depends on technique.

All in all a tav is just more convenient.
