| I got a new 5.5 hp honda motor for dirt cheap.. and a mechanic who says he can work on it to get the full power out of it.. wondering if you think this will work good enough.. also wondering whats a good gear ratio for it.. and width and diameter for the spool. |

He probably will just adjust the governor spring allowing the engine to open all the way up, it is very simple to do yourself.
I run a 6hp briggs with a tav2 12/68 gear ratio with an 8inch diameter spool that is like 6 inches wide and about 15inches across.

I know a guy that has a 5hp winch he's running 12/72 on it with a TAV it wont deep water start for sh|t but other than that it works fine _________________ Go Balls Deep Or Go Home |

| I would recommend a tav2 for sure.. if you plan on deepwater starting anyone heavier than 150 pounds. |

you will still be able to start off a sliding start, like a piece of pvc, with a centrifugal clutch. high torque starts like acid dropping might give you issues. Im not sure if you would be able to start sittin on a chair or not, guess it depends on technique.
All in all a tav is just more convenient. |
