scott byerly - originator of the sport, started back in the 90's on cut up wakeboards with fresh water traction pads on top. started the first major wakeskate only contest known as the byerly toe jam.

thomas horrell - owner/founder of the first all wakeskate company (cassette wakeskates) which was the pioneer company in board shape and design with the first concave decks to the first bi levels. possibly brought wakeskating to where it is today,
landed the first kickflips back in 99 i believe.

thats what i know

brian grubb - Most inovated rider at the time, consitant with w2w tricks. One of the first guys to have a composite pro wakeskate.

Talk about stmato, and volumne. and stuff.

jason messer - one of the originators of the idea of wakeskating, founder of FWT or fresh water traction, foam traction pads to add to the top of wakeboards to make into wakeskates.

theres a big 3 story writeup on this site on him and the early wakeskating days

There is a jason messer interview on this site, which is pretty complete (since he mentions the key players from the 90s), and there's also a thomas horrell interview on here. Both were historically themed. It's not the complete history to wakeskating as a whole, but it's a fair chunk of it...I'm still working on other interviews from early "raw dogs"...

Also, fresh water traction was the first wakeskate specific company. Jason pretty much started the industry as far as I'm concerned, because he did not make any excuses when it came to people being ready or what ever. Whatever he was passionate about, he went through with and communicated that to a lot of people. Cassette, as far as I can remember, was the second all wakeskate company.

Byerly actually rode with astrodeck traction pads, not fresh water traction. Also, there was a wakeskate only comp that came before the toe jam (it was in conjunction with the free4all video premiere), but the toe jam is a much bigger deal.

teefus32, if you can come up with some more specific requests, PM me and I will scan what I have...I have access to a fair bit of material. Also, feel free to browse our SITE MUSEUM (hahaha). It's in the media gallery section of the site. You'll see a bunch of early wakeskates, ranging from the early cassettes, hyperlite waterskates, the first few FWT wakeskates and the first set of traction pads that jason created (the were also the ones that were used to help him get one of the first, if not the first wakeskate specific patents). I also have a bunch of my traction pads in there from FWT and Bad ass (including the hooks).

Here's the link to part one (of six) for the messer interview: http://www.wakeskating.com/showarticle.php?a=407

Lost and found: a story about the earliest official FWT wakeskate (the one he used in the first documented jib session on a wakeskate): http://www.wakeskating.com/showarticle.php?a=506

Each one is linked up to the next, so it's fairly easy to navigate.

EDIT: (sigh) skatenerding:
Boards: http://www.wakeskating.com/media/showgallery.php?cat=576
Accessories: http://www.wakeskating.com/media/showgallery.php?cat=578
Misc: http://www.wakeskating.com/media/showgallery.php?cat=579

I want to get a history tab on the front page of the site, so all of the historically themed articles will be lumped in one place.

Thanks for everything. my speech only has to be like 3 to 5 minutes so i just have to give a quick overview with some main points but nothing too in-depth. but i appreciate the help and info.

just FYI my little cousin was the first person to tell me about wakeskating and i brought him with me so i could see for myself what "wakeskating" was and the board he had was an all foam board with 2 black foam foot pads with a one inch kick tail. if i can get pictures i will but it was very primative.

teefuss32, the best most entertaining subject would be PIRATE. Hands down. In fact, if you have some visuals, you'll get a n A+ for sure.

In my opinion, any half-rate academic and give a history lesson.

It takes real thought to tie wakeskating into a larger theme. You should figure out what it is that you wish to get across, i.e., why is wakeskating important? Every speech needs to prove a point. What do you wish to prove?? What is your thesis????

Picking a good thesis is very hard. Sometimes it is best to start by doing a ton a research not knowing what it is that you want to prove. A lot of the time, a good thesis will come to you only after a ton of research.

I don’t know what topic you will want to choose, but there are plenty out there.

well this speech only has to be an informative speech so i dont need to get too in-depth with it. it just has to be an overview of what it is and where is came from etc. ill have to get in front of class and inform the class what wakeskating is in 3 to 5 minutes. i'd love to get down into the nitty gritty but its not necessary. thanks for the ideas though im sure ill have to write a paper sooner or later and i will definitely be coming back and askin more questions but for now i just needed a few things to start my speech out. everything else will be things used for wakeskating and methods/techniques.

teefuss32, were you able to find most of what you needed, or do you have any more questions?
