i'm not trying to start a fight, but i've found wood to sit in the water different that composite, especially in rough water. one day i rode two boards back-to-back and the wood deck seemed to ride lower while the composite bounced on top of the water a lot more. i like the way the wood board rode a lot better than the composite, it was way smoother, thus easier to pop, etc... ironicaly, the boards i'm talking about were the original mutiny decks like a year and a half ago.
as far as lf, their wakeboards are sick, and i'll always stand behind that, but their skates are pretty cheap rip-offs.
schmaltz, good luck with next year. i hope everything goes really well... |

[. As for LF and hyperlite, yes they deserve to die and I hope they burn in hell.[/quote]
lol
I guess you can view this two ways. The bad side (obvious)
And the good side.
Atleast wakeskating is evolving enough that big companies are truly starting to see the potential it has and soon will be (not money making but the true aspect of skating). It wasn't too long ago most boarders didn't give a shizzle about wakeskating. Progression is definately a good thing. It would be nice if they tried to come up with their own stuff though. I'll definately ride my chewed up k39 over that though, atleast its an innovative design. Copying other peoples stuff is just going to slow the sport down and cause a TON OF POSERS.

suckmywake, I agree with you. All it comes down to is personal preference...
Pirate, I disagree with you. They don't sit low in the water straight out of the box. People have said that if you round the rails, then it will sit lower.
wakeskate77, I agree with you (and it is true--the larger dudes have always tried to squeeze out the smaller dudes in this industry). Erich is a new competitor in the industry (at least with these wakeskates) and he's obviously taking some of the market share from the greedy pigs. And I'm sure they're freaked because he had something completely different and an image/heart that people have responded to--which is something they don't have. Whateves, whateves, I feel like I'm being redundant on here... _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

| Just so yall know, liquid force, hyperlite, and obrien are all owned by the same guy, so thats why they all have the same graphics and seem to steal ideas, but thats just what the local shop owner told me. |

I don't agree with this theory. Each company does have the same financial investors, but the investors do allow each company to do their own thing. I can't imagine any of the investors making decisions about graphics unless it was something very controversial. Even so, I don't think the decisions would make it that far up the chain of command. |

Suckmywake,
I understand what you are saying 100%, but you have to realize it’s not the wood that makes it sit deeper in the water. Like Electricsnow said, it has to do with the shape of the board, not the material used. I hate when people talk about a board being more or less buoyant, which relates to the material. At 18-23 mph, buoyancy is a negligible force. The other thing you said, the way it bounced. That also deals with the shape, but one thing wood does offer is a dampening effect. One reason wood is great. Hit a rail with a cassette and then a hyperlite, the cassette is soft and sits nice on the rail, the hyperlite, bangs loud and reverberates. On the water, sure that is the case as well, but if the board is designed correctly, it can take away from that reverberating feel. Now, not to be too persuasive, but take Integrity boards, for example. It does not reverberate like a hyperlite, because it is made with a different material. More than wood yes, but not much. Wood or foam and fiberglass, that’s been our choice. Its why so many have loved the "wood" feel. But like Erich has said many times before, when is this industry going to start changing for the better, trying new materials, which can offer a higher quality and better ride. So that’s why he’s doing it. This industry is too stuck in their ways. I remember some old wakeboards that had those qualities, indestructible, with different materials. What were they called? Who designed them?
Soapbox what?

all thi talk about big companies trying to squeeze out little companies reminds me of what schamltz said on the mutiny on the bounty dvd extras. i dont remeber exactly what he said, but baiscally he said it is amazing what the big guys in the wake will do if they start to feel threatened by the little guys, just to get the little guys out of the picture.
if you got the movie from integrity after the moive is over you see a red screen with a guy in the middle, click below the guy and a word "prooganda" should appear, click on that, and its an interview with schmaltz and Horrell about "mutiny on the bounty" _________________ ride a lunch tray

i kind of agree with what your saying there but whilst the investors may not have much input i wouldn't agree that a lot of the same parts aren't being used. i was at expo in september and the double up/liquid force bindings are pretty similar in some of the components they use now that they are all under the same roof.
i'm sure there were some blindside/double up similarities too back when that happened but i can't remember
props to Schmaltz,Thomas and Collin Wright for dodging the big guys. thomas had the right idea, use them while you can but keep it yours.
