|
|
So after riding my skate I want to shape the edges. On some of my fs shuvs the edge would catch and it would disappear. So if I round the edges will that help?
Actually what im looking for is what are the pro/cons of shaping it, and how do i do it? |

Vance, I'm pretty sure they have directions for this on the site. I even saved the pics on my computer. The main pros I can think of are a) customizablitiy, becuase you can have a completely sharp rail like a ginsu knife, a dull rail like a wood deck, or a variable edged ride, where it's dull in the middle for lipslide forgiveness, and sharp on the ends to maintain its aggressiveness on edge (correct me if I'm wrong).
I don't know who all has sanded their board...el might have, but I know erich rides with a variable edged wakeskate. Looking back through some mags, I know wake tech used to do that with their first byerly blunts, and now that idea is coming back into use because liquid force's boards have variable edge designs.
As for actually shaping it, I'm not going to say anything because I couldn't bring myself to actually put sandpaper to closed-foam cell core. But again, check the site, or i"m sure someone else will be able to say something. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

Vance,
Re-Shaping your rails and general information on what it can do for your riding.
First off, we would like to say each Integrity deck comes 'turn key' or ready to ride without any shaping necessary. Secondly, re-shaping can also help some riders dial in their skate by adjusting the rails to their liking. By doing this it can help you become a better rider and allow you to progress and grow at your own pace. Below we will explain what you can accomplish by fine tuning or customizing your deck.
Every deck comes stock with a 32' degree edge from top to the bottom sheet. [exhibit A.] It runs the entire length of the board slowly fading out to the tips. This aggressive bevel allows the board to plane high on the water. With this bevel you will notice a very quick response time. It will allow you to turn with speed, force, and hold an edge extremely well. The pro's and con's for shaping the rails are listed also. Some things listed below might apply to some riders and some will not... depending on skill level and the way each person adapts and rides.
... How to Shape your rails ...
It's really simple, all you need is some medium grit sand paper and or a sanding block. Just round the edge with a back and forth motion up and down the rail. The rail will shape easily once you round the bottom sheet down a bit. A power sander or palm sander will shape it in seconds were as hand sanding obliviously will requires more effort. After you have the desired shape use some fine 'wet sand' paper to smooth it out... Nothing too complex here...
I personally ride with my edges soft thru the waist and progressively getting shaper towards the tail this allows me to have the best of both worlds... nice edging for wake to wake, and softer waist for lip tricks. I would also like to encourage you to experiment with your deck... it will help you discover what works best for you and ultimately make you a better rider. You might be suprised how much of a difference it will make. _________________ Vive La Jeffe! - JLA is snowboarding!

electricsnow, Grouch,
Thanks! They got the Integrity site blocked here.
I want to shape it like you said with Erich's, so I need to only sand the middle parts of both sides correct? And I make it round? |

Actually I haven't done anything to my edges yet, but I'm planning on it. I'm also planning on putting a spoiler and 20s on it too, but lets 's keep that on the DL... _________________

el,
you need to put some gold spinners with the $$$ symbol in the middle. You would be the shizzle up in Oregon. _________________ Vive La Jeffe! - JLA is snowboarding!

Funny you should mention putting an integrity sticker on a wakeboard. El hooked me up with a sweet integ sticker once, and I was contemplating puting it on my board, but couldn't bring my self to do it. Something just was WRONG about putting a Integrity sticker on a Hyperlte... _________________ The aforementioned postings and musings are the opinions of myself in their entirety and are not the opinions of wakeskating.com |

Mmmk... if you are sanding down your edges, I think I made a little helper thing a while ago, but start with some sandpaper around 50-80 grit and have a hand sanding pad or a powersander if you know what you are doing. Then use a higher finer grit like 150-200 to clean it up and smooth it out. Put some elbow grease into it (or electric power)... _________________

By keeping the edges quite sharp (keeping it stock) on the tip and tail and by sanding the centre more round will that make the board sit lower in the water or would i also have to round the kip and tail rails to make it sit lower?
Cheers guys |

Mix matching stickers is kind of like wearing DVS shoes and a DC shirt.
You just dont do it...and if you do you should be shot! _________________ Vive La Jeffe! - JLA is snowboarding!
