We're doing a debate for my writing class and I'd just like to get some other people's opinions on the subject.

I am arguing for the fact that the United States should act as the so called "Police" of the world. (not necessarily my opinion, but just what i have to cover)

I'd just like to get some points on this topic. Preferably ones that are oppsite of the side i am on so I can get an idea of what other people might say.

i dont think we should be the police of the world at all. 1. A shizzle load of money will be lost and our people would be dieing left and right because of those forein fizzle. 2. I hate police,im 16 and have 14 points on my license allready

Wakesk8Playa_69, I don't think you are helping him out too much... it doesn't matter what you think, for his class he has to argue that specific position, whether he supports it or not. I also don't think it's the police's fault you already have so many points on your license, just something to think about, I guess I could be wrong about that, but I doubt it.

Slyder, some points to consider, As Americans, we are very lucky to have many of the privilegdes we have, why would we let others live in poverty and captive by corrupted government leaders...
-Also, being one of the most important economies in the world, we heavily rely on foreign investment, sometimes it is necessary to institute police action to ensure that investment in order to keep our market economy from falling into depression
-In order to prevent a terrorist threat, someone must take action... being the target of so many terrorist organizations, it is in our interest to do what we can to eliminate that threat

There are alot of better ideas you can use, but these are just stuff that just came to me off the top of my head... good luck with the debate

Slyder, Your neighbor's looking at you, he's screwing the barrell of his 50 caliber machine gun to his stock. He's now mounting the scope. Next he breaks out the tripod. You know he means you harm, its just a matter of time. What do you do? You can't just sit around, you gotta be proactive. There are a BUNCH of people that want to hurt you and me and our friends. I don't totally agree with the powers that be, but sometimes the best defense is, in fact, a good offense. But, we can do it in an intelligent way.

How can you say you "hate" police when their main concern is to keep you safe? Just because you do stupid shizzle and get caught by the cops doesn't give you reason to hate them. Without the police there would be no way anyone could be safe or survive. Think about that then say whether or not you "hate" the police.

I also understand that they can be jackasses to us, but most of the time they give us crap for senseless things that we do.

Indeed, my work tis wonderful... Laughing

Slyder, this is what I think: It's hard not to "parent" other countries when we are viewed as a super power. Obviously authority is hated by people, and thusly people grow to hate the US. But we must do this partially because we are expected too, and if we didn't we would be hated by other nations too. So it becomes a balance between how much involvement we need to have, and how much is considered too much... The US simply cannot please everyone, and we have to pick and choose our battles. We usually side with large countries and then have enemies who work more of a local level. We need to protect ourselves, but at the same time we cant be too overbearing on other sovereign nations...

Thanks guys, keep em comming. Unfortunately I'm kind of looking for stuff along the lines of what Wakesk8Playa_69 said. I'm not going up against what I would consider a rocket scientist.

Any opinion, even if not backed up, is welcome.

I feel in times of need we need to intervene. The tsunami is a matter that we are policing in a helpful good samaratin way. I am proud to be part of a country who reaches out to another in need.
This Iraq thing I feel we don't belong. It seems like Vietnam all over again. Who are we to tell these people that our govt. is superior. I think NATO should police the world. This way it's not a biased decision. Bin Laden is the one I want to die, not the innocent iraqi and american people.

Good luck with your debate Slyder, remember ethos, pathos, and logos.
