What little previous knowlege I had of him... wrote a couple books discussing the power of the church in religion, stating that he felt the current church was acting as a roadblock between people and God rather than a means of getting closer. That people needed a relationship with God rather than a system of doctrines and politics. If I remember right he got excommunicated from the Russian church (Greek Orthodox if I'm not mistaken...) because he was becoming influential. He was an advocate of non-violence, vegetarianism, love and respect for all classes of people (though he chewed out the wealthy and authorities a lot) and stood for general liberty in life without rude interference from overbearing establishment...

He wrote one of the longest books about the Russian Revolution calle War and Peace. He was a Russian sophist.

Basically,

He was a very rich upperclass man who never had to work a day in his life and gave it all away and worked in the fields and than War & Peace. A book with over 300 characters. You basically need to have a notepad with you and jot down notes as you read the book.
