Plasma is like a higher form of donating blood. Takes a little more work and a little more time.

Do you go to Mac? When i was in OAC in high school we hit their lab and did some of the testing. Like VO2 max and stuff. It's actually pretty interesting...especially for $600. Good luck

Ok... Unless im wrong and i have been before, the meaning of a "biopsy" is to take a tissue sample to analyze it with dyes under a microscope... ok so not the best break down!

My point is here, umm you would have to pay me a hell of alot more than $600 for some idiot to make me stress my body to that extent and then obviously cut out a piece of muscle for a biopsy sample. Unless i am wrong on this. How the hell are they going to take a muscle sample???

The Physical part is not a big deal, you will just feel like crap for a few days... make sure you have a hot tub or at least a hot bath to lie in because you are going to hurt!

But... i have heard of things like this when i was in college. and of people that were screwed up be these tests! and the release forms you will sign will waive them of any responsibility if they screw you up.... something to think about.

Scotty S., I go to the University if Guelph

SleuCrew, They use a special needle to take the biopsy. The sample is about the size on an eraser on the end of a pencil, and they take it from your theigh. Ive heard that it hurts like hell.

Matt……

Aren’t you stoked that there are 3 people from the G.Dot on this thread?

Uof G is notorious for this type of shee-AT!!! I had a close friend who made a good living donating his time and energy to “science.”

When I was at University, we had similar “tests” for money, but for quick cash, I preferred to let the strung out homos on Church Street suck me off for 50 bucks a pop! HAHA! Just kidding! I never did. But the fact of the matter was that the opportunity was there; I just never got THAT desperate for cash.

Go ahead and do it! Why not?! It will be fun. But before you go, rent the movie FireStarter. That will put you in the right mood.

To answer your question “Why would anybody be willing to do this to themselves???? “

Here’s my answer . . . You are a student. Even worse, you are an artist, who, I am also assuming, is also unemployed. An unemployed artist at school is willing to sell their ass to Lucifer if the price is right. Don’t be temped!!!

With that said, however, life is nothing more than a collection of good stories. So while you might be “selling your body for science” now, you could very well be walking away 600 bucks richer with a great story to tell.

So, you might as well! I doubt anyone here will think any less of you for doing so.

PS (where do I sign up?)

Scotty.S

I am ASSUMING he is talking about Bishop MAC HS. However, if he is talking about McMaster Uni, then I am a retard. Further, the fact that Bishop MAC was recently destroyed makes me more of a retard.

As a side note, we got caught by the copes trying to steal rails from the Bishp MAC demolition site.....

Alright, so what started as a simple drink with watching the Apprentice has now turned into a six pack, a mudslide, and some JD.

HAHA .... UTAH is drunk again.

Track pants are like dress pants..hahahaha!

To answer someone else's question, plasma is the clear stuff in your blood. They remove your blood and then some machine separates it and then pumps your blood back into you. There are a couple of cycles during your plasma donation visit (though it's all in one seating). Sometimes, your mouth tastes like metal...like you've been sucking on pennies. Not that i do that or anything, that's just what I"ve heard...

Hello hello!

Thanks for your interest in our upcoming exercise and nutrition
study.

In this email, I will provide more details about the study protocol, as well as
subject commitments, and will address some of the specific questions asked.

Purpose of study:
The main purpose of the study is to determine whether exercise-induced skeletal
muscle carbohydrate (glycogen) depletion, followed by different rates of
glycogen resynthesis, are associated with a protein that is involved in
carbohydrate and lipid metabolism.

Subject commitments and protocol:
Subjects will be asked to complete a questionnaire and consent form prior to
participation in the study.

Subjects will complete a 3 day food diary (2 weekdays + 1 weekend day) in order
for me to determine daily caloric intake.

Subjects will complete a VO2max testing (test to determine maximal oxygen
consumption), and, on a different day, subjects will complete a 60 min ride
(cycling on a stationary bike) at 65-70% VO2max, in order to ensure that you
can ride long enough to deplete skeletal muscle glycogen stores on the actual
trial days.

Subjects will perform 2 trials, separated by at least 2 weeks.
Before EACH trial, subjects will come in for a habituation ride (1 h ride ~
48-36 h prior to trial date).
On the day of the trials, subjects will ride on a stationary bike until
voluntary exhaustion (approximately 1.5 - 2 h). DON'T WORRY - you get to watch
movies and listen to music - SO good!

Muscle biopsies - you can do it.
Muscle biopsies will be taken (by an experienced physician) at rest (prior to
exercise), and at Exhaustion (immediately after exercise), as well as at 2 h,
24 h, and 48 h after exercise has stopped. You won't have to hang out and watch
silly movies with me for the entire 48 hours (although we could) - you can leave
after your 2 h biopsy, and simply return to the lab for your 24 and 48 h
biopsies in the following evenings. So - each trial consists of 5 biopsies,
meaning that you will be giving 10 biopsies in total.

More on muscle biopsies:
They are not that bad.
Seriously.
During the time of the biopsy, you may feel pressure in your thigh and mild
discomfort - but this passes quickly and subjects are very capable of
continuing exercise. I will provide more info on the procedure, as well as show
a video of a muscle biopsy being taken, to those who are still interested in the
study...

--

Blood will be drawn at various time points during exercise and near the time of
muscle biopsies.

After one exercise trial, subjects will eat a high carb diet for the following
48 h, and after the other exercise trial, subjects will be on a low carb diet
for the following 48 h. Subjects MUST comply with the required diet during this
recovery period. The diet will be based on your habitual caloric intake.

During these 48 hours, specific meals will be provided to the subject and/or
meals will be reimbursed.

$$$:
Financial compensation will be $600 - and will only be given once both exercise
trials have been completed. This is no small amount of money, but when you
consider the commitment required, you will recognize that you will have earned
it.

Other considerations:
Subjects will need to refrain from having caffeine and alcohol for the 2 days
prior to each trial and during the trial and recovery period.

Also - subjects must avoid strenuous exercise prior to the exercise trials, and
must not exercise during the Recovery period. This may prove impossible for
those of you who are extremely active - varsity athletes, etc. If you have a
strict training schedule that does not allow you to comply by these rules, then
this isn't the study for you. Sad

Trial dates:
The first trial day is Wed March 2nd, beginning late morning/early afternoon,
and will take up the entire afternoon and early evening (exercising 1.5-2 h as
well as remaining in the lab for 2 hrs of recovery). You will then return Thurs
March 3 evening for a 24 h biopsy and Friday March 4 evening for your 48 h
biopsy.

The second set of trial dates has yet to be finalized. It is contingent on the
physician's schedule. It will likely occur occur March 19-21 or March 20-22,
but could potentially happen later in March or during the first week of April.
I will give you this information as soon as it is finalized.

To answer some specific questions:

1. You can wear whatever you are comfortable in for the exercise protocols.
In order to carry out blood samples - you will have a small catheter placed in a
vein in your forearm by medically trained technicians. The teflon catheter is
inserted with the assistance of a small needle, and subsequently, the needle is
removed. Once the needle is removed there should be no sensation from the
catheter. In any one experiment the total blood loss is less than 70 ml and
this is less than a sixth of the blood loss when you donate blood for the Red
Cross.

2. We are looking for non-smoking recreationally active males. If you smoke
SELDOMLY, and are willing and able to refrain from smoking for the duration of
the study, that should be fine.

3. If you have suffered from asthma in the past, but haven't experienced
problems recently, then this exercise protocol should be okay. You know best
how you respond to exercise. If you don't forsee a problem with riding to
voluntary exhaustion for 1.5-2 h, then this shouldn't prevent you from being a
potential subject for this study.

Have a lovely night!

~ Anila

Sweet!

Let's go out drinking tonight in G.dot....serious! 10:30 at eBar.

Moreover, there is no excuse why people in G.dot should not be riding our decks and sporting our flow. Matt won his, but for you, I can deduct the cost of shipping! Word?! I hate to be a salesman, but you know.....babies need diapers.

Word!
