does anyone believe that the media controlls the mass majority of america? does anyone believe that the government has a big hand in this?...if so spill what you think.

PS. by posting this im not saying that i think this is true...im just F*cking bored and want to read some funny stuff.

not exactly sure if this is what your talking about but , if you are talking about the celebretys and stuff I think its crap. I just got back from walmart and you see all these magazines that are like did nick and jessica break up. and I think is funny all the mtv stuff and E stuff and alot of people want to know about celebretys and whats going on in their lives and it has no affect on them.

like how the news and other media portray the war in iraq as soemthing its not.

of course media controls the country. it owns the world. i think everyone knows that.

the world would be a better place without the media. people would form their own damn opinions for once. wakeskating.com could be considered media though. without this site would you still be buying integritys and bilevels, would you hate hyperlite so much? many people use this website for their advantage to advertise or put down other products or riders.

I often ponder those kinds of things- going to the grocery store, wads of paper screaming out from the stands, "J Lo divorces her umpteenth husband!". Hmm I think to myself. This affects me how? What has J Lo ever done for me? What have any of the celebrities done to merit such close attention from we, the peasants? What makes us care so much about what those people do with themselves? Are those people supposed to be our role models? If they are, who the hell chose them? I didn't.

The same people who entertain us, who let our minds travel to the sur-reality of make believe, also seem to be important in our own, personal lives. I'm not saying it's bad to feel moved by a good movie or anything, I'm asking why should we care what they were wearing to a party celebrating themselves and their accomplishments. The way they are presented to us seems to make some people feel down on themselves, for having a 9-5 job, not looking like they "should" (sexy by sertain standards), and not eating/drinking/wearing the right stuff. Are you annoyed when some arsehole you've never met tries to come to your door, on your time, to sell you something by making you feel bad? When we open a tabloid or turn on a TV, this isn't too far from the truth.

OK, I think to myself, that's pretty lame. Why are these people trying to make me think what they think of me? Watch the commercials/look at the ads to see the answer, to see our salvation. We can escape our ugly/unfashionable/foul smelling/fat/unsexy/crappy car driving selves by buying what they offer us. There are people out there who make millions by coming up with ways to convice us of these things, by selling us images. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/persuaders/

Now, I know, that this is capitalism, and these are just the way things are. People are given jobs, the economy stays healthy, and we are all comfortable. But at what cost... What are we doing to ourselves and each other by accepting it at face value? I personally feel like that it's unhealthy for our minds. There is lots of research that says the youth of today are WAY overstimulated and as a result have weaker attention spans. There's my thoughts on pop culture. We are a designed, made up culture. So what should we do about it?

I'm curious... what are people's thoughts on the news media?

everything in singapore, internet, newspaper, tv, public speakings, is all censored by the government. They even listen in on some long distance phone calls and stuff.

as long as you have for-profit media you will never know the truth, you will be blinded by corporations and major corporations posing as humans (i.e bush)
