yeh i think your mixed up with manta rays. sting rays have these crazy stingers on their tails, hence the name "sting ray".

no cablerider's right, it would have been a stingray, mantarays don't sting or anything, they're peaceful animals, i've been swimming with some the size of a small car.. sometimes stingrays don't fully get the barb in and it leaves a mean scratch that stings like a beach for a couple of hours... its happened to me so many times i've started to get an immunity to the poison... lol...
yea, that sux what happened to that guy, not a good way to go... they said it was quick tho so he wouldn't have suffered much...

CABLERIDER, I don't think you're allergic to stingrays and I don't think most people realize that stingrays have one of the most powerful nerve-attacking toxins in the world

tampa may have the keys beat on statistics, but its a lot harder to count fish in the keys.

I got stung by a small sting ray this past summer at the third coast, luckily it didnt get infected. It felt like someone put a steak knife through my achillies tendon though.

Nick Taylor, it is dumb to argue, but the flats in the keys are some of the most unnavigable waters in the world, making it hard to count animals. not to mention the size or the area and backwaters and mangrove islands' cuts, and creeks. there are a whole lot of sting rays off that siesta key beach, i remember from last time i was there. but its dumb so we should drop it
... but seriously, my dad could beat up your dad.

BTW, they do the counting and sh*t by aerial radar or sumthin like that, with little airplanes...
