this was posted on wakeskate.com by a user called 'reality check'.....to your dislike or otherwise i thought i'd bring the 'post' over here...i thought with the popularity of the cassette thread..why not...

Wow - so much has been said where do we begin? I have been reading alot for the past few months here and wakeskating.com and almost everything regarding 484 & Cassette is plain out wrong. It's people who get bad info or think they know something and want to share it with the world. Well I hope you are ready for the truth.
I knew Scott @ 484 from the beginning, and still talk to him and the other guys there. There have been so many made up stories - here is the real one:
LF & Cassette parted ways (that is another story). When they did that LF burned thier wakeskate manufacturer (what you didn't think LF actually manufactured Cassette wakeskates did you?). So here is a manufacturer ready to build thousands of skates and no one to sell them. In comes Scott and the birth of 484. Scott (who had been manufacturing snowboards & skateboards) decided to start selling wakeskates as well. So he paid the manufacturer to produce a new line of skates (just like LF/Cassette did). So this story of stolen boards & molds is all BS. Then just like any new company - they started hitting the streets, getting the name out and trying to get product out into the public.
Pretty simple story - no drama, no rip-offs, no "us vs. them", just another wakeskate company.
But then things got ugly - and here are some stories you don't here from Cassette friendly forums. I'll spare you the reading time and only give you two or three:
1. An oldie: Oregon Pro-Tour stop: some 13/14 year old kid buys a 484 board from the booth - then he sees his wakeskating heros signing autographs - yeah they are Cassette guys. So he gives them his board to sign and what do they do? Draw profanity and penises all over the board - nice. Well, Scott found out and had the kid come back by and get a brand new board. Oh yeah another Cassette guy got his ass kicked after starting a fight in the VIP booth (for which the Cassette guys were kicked out of).
2. A new one: Worlds, Orlando... Scott is driving out of OWC and sees the Cassette guys raking a 484 board across the chain link. So he drives up and asks (Aaron Reed) where he got the board and his reply is - we stole it, just like you stole our designsm etc. etc. and then they just walk away...
Even the guys that are in the industry don't know what is really going on!
Here is something else to think about: Who is REALLY promoting the sport - cuz there is all this talk that it is all about Cassette. But who sponsors the events? Who is at every stop? Who is pushing wakeskating to ESPN and other sports broadcasters? Well, if you goto the events, Pro Tour, X-Games, etc. you will see for yourselves that Cassette is never there - oh Thomas may show up but he is not footing the bill for a booth, in fact someone probably paid him to come. It's companies like Hyperlite, LF, Gatorboards, and 484 that are there, set up, trying to make the world look at wakeskating as a legit sport.
And lastly if you heard about Cassettes steller performance of beer throwing - you really gotta have some respect for them. Yeah picking on some 16 year old kid - right on Cassette you are what wakeskating is all about.
I know you hate me - but I know the truth and am sick of seeing lies spread on these forums...
and if you think I am full of it, thats fine, but I took the time to lay it all out.

I dont really know if this is all bs but i might be true if it is the cassette guys r losers but i really cant c the cassette guys do that to that kid well maybe they would i really dont know Shocked

Like Todd said, for my mind it's not so much the deal with the manufacturer that pisses me off, it was a f*cked up time for three companies, it's the way that no creativity was used in the designs.

That first story of the fight in the VIP tent in Oregon is off. The 'fight' was between Myles and a guy who works on the tour. The guy spilled his drink all over Myles and he got up in a WTF type of manner and the guy without even thinking punched Myles in the face. And that was it. It wasnt a 'fight' and no one got their 'ass kicked'.

this is starting to get really gay!!!!!!! okay everyone get over it 484 wakeskates started along time ago and we had a lot of discusions on that be now its getting old god i`m tired of hearing some people whine about how 484 stole cassettes desighs well know its really anoying so i dont give a shizzle!!! I cant beleive the cassette guys did that to a kids board if its true that they did that and by the way why do the cassette guys have to be such a$$`s?

I like your thinkin WaKeSk8Er1234, and we have never fought on this web page but really do u know the cassette guys personally like how do u know that they are all really nice guys. I know it is hard to belive but it might be true and wholy shizzle 484rider man myles sounds like a flamer him self.
