Is Ty Morlang the only person to have landed a flip on a wakeskate? I remember seeing him do a front flip Indy off a kicker at a cable park.

This isn’t really a topic I hear about too often. What do yall think, are they cool or kooky?

I personally have always wanted to be able to do one, but never worked up the courage to try one. I’m terrified of disconnecting mid air and the board landing on my head 😂

I dont know the answer, but I don’t think any sort of invert is super common. I would have never thought of Ty had you not mentioned it (and him).

Personally,I don’t have a lot of interest in seeing a flip.Riding is a very personal thing, but part of me feels a little bummed to see people ignore the disconnected aspect of wakeskating vs riding the board like a wakeboard, ie not working on anything flat water, or have very weak flat water fundamentals and just focus on hitting features. That long ass sentence is why I don’t really care to see a flip.😂 in the same breath, I’ve always respected your riding and wish you the best on that experiment.

Ty is the only one we have footage of doing a legit flip on a wakeskate. There was a guy 15 or so years ago who drilled a cabinet door handle to top of his board and did one wake toeside backroll by early grabbing the handle. Other than that, I’ve seen BT hold an extra wakeskate in his hand, and backflip off a kicker launching the board he was riding and putting the board in his hand under his feet to ride away.

Frye was also working on them for a while before Ty ever did it. He may have also rode away from a couple of them, but in the pursuit of landing one clean, he landed on the board with his body and we suspect he broke a rib which took him out for a while and I don’t know that he ever tried it again after that.

I’d still like to see a good one though. My opinion on it used to be pretty similar to Esnow’s, but after spending hours and hours riding with wakeboarders at the cable park, I have started to enjoy seeing which tricks of theirs I can steal and do on my wakeskate. Sometime flipping my board feels like a lot of effort, and cruising around focusing on hitting the features is a lower effort form or riding that is still fun for me.
