| I'm looking to get back into the wake scene, skating specifically, and is LF using all of the old cassette shapes now? I'd like to get something as similar to the old concave cassette stuff or the 4trac. any suggestions of boards or where to buy? |

| You're probably not going to find a deck that's too similar to the old Cassette decks. Don't worry, they've gotten better (gasp!) over the years. Boards now are heavier, more durable, wider, and shorter than they used to be back in '03. I think LF is probably the only company making an Asymm deck. Other boards worth checking out include Remote, Watermonsters, Aphid, Virtue and a bunch others I'm sure I'm forgetting. The most popular boards on this site are probably Remote and Watermonsters. |

He's right. The most on point deck would have been the 4-trac. Anything else would be really narrow and light by today's standards. A year ago I still rode the 40" tim kov 3d because I'm all about cassette. Then I got a tao from reed and I finally found out what I was missing with these new boards. The weight and size are great improvements in board design.
Hard to say what board is right because I think they ride differently. Right now, I still love the tao...it pops, carves/surfs comfortably...or the design is such that I do those things effortlessly. Other board I've tried didn't carve the same way and it felt odd for what I'm used to. I'd like to try out a remote to see how those boards feel. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

| Oh I figured they have gotten much better in the past 6 years. That's why I came back here to get some insight. I figured electricsnow would give me an idea seeing she was an even bigger fan of cassette than I was. I ended up pulliung the trigger on a LF Mod 42. I was never a huge fan of compression molded boards but assumed they worked much, much better now seeing as quite a few are. Thanks for the heads up. Nice to see the militant members of this site are on vacation or gone. |

I think they've done things to improve the compression molded boards, like adjusting the edges some and trying have the foam be more dense. But As a whole, that style of board is not super popular in wakeskating. Wood is generally always there in some fashion, but now it's usually wrapped/sandwiched in something more durable. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

That's brian dawley. Hopefully you recognize the name, but just in case, he's a product design guy, former cassette team member/designer and bi-level co-creator. Product videos can be awkward, but dawley is a radical human. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |
