I thought this might be an interesting thread. What's in store for the immediate (or not so immediate) future of wakeskating?
Possible items of discussion include, but are not limited to;
What will be landed in the next year, and by who?
Who's going to blow up soon, and why?
Is the recent explosion of cable parks helping wakeskating grow in a positive way?
What are we going to see in this year's videos?
What do you want to see more of? Less of?
Ultimately, where is wakeskating going? |

| Wakeskating is awesome, always fun always will be, whether it gets bigger smaller or stays the same (It think its going to slowly get bigger and hopefully be at the point where wakeboarding is or even past it). Cable parks in my opinion are a huge help to wakeskating with riding opportunities and exposure for what were doing. That said I'm not a huge fan of all cable videos it should definintley be used but also with winch/rails or boat or whatever, I do try to go to mccormicks as much as i can though. The videos coming out should be crazy, Integrity and Nosia Vision are hopefully coming in a couple months and I'm excited to see them both. Hopefully it keeps going in the winch/rail I wish I could winch more. Marcus I wanna here what you think of this aswell haha |

I love riding cable and think it is a great way to get people into the sport that dont have lake access.
I would also like to see more jet ski videos. It's my favorite to watch and i think there can never be enough of it. _________________ if theres no future in it, at least theres a present worth remembering.

I always love these threads!
I also think a flip will be landed so that it will finally be done.
I am hoping to see Ben Horan do a kickflip back tail. That would be so sick and if someone were to do it, it would be him.
Ben Horan is already big, but if he has a year like this year, he deserves Alliance ROTY next year.
I think Andrew Fortenberry will start to get more mainstream coverage. He has been so good for so long and yet he hasnt been in a magazine yet.
I think cable is good for wakeskating. Because cable makes more sense at a cable park because you are always walking back, plus you can do so much more on rails with a wakeskate.
I want to see up and comers get what they deserve: mag coverage and AM spots on major teams. Remote, Water Monsters, and Obscura are doing it right imo
I love wakeskating and I cant wait to see where it goes! |

In the next year as far as tricks, I think wakeskating is going to be unbelievable. I think Nick could do a back big flip 360 and make it look beautiful. I think Ben is either going flip in or out of a lock in, I'm thinking that front tail flip out would be the prime.
Andrew Fortenberry is one of he best wakeskaters in the world. I rode with him quite a bit this summer, and maybe 3 other people on this Earth can lay down a ski set like he can. His rail skills are equally impressive, and I cannot wait to see his part in the Integrity video. If anyone deserves more coverage in wakeskating, it's him.
Travis B, I think you'll get a lot of attention this year too. You are so good, and you're only getting better. I want to see T Bloods on top of the podium at toe jam soon.
I think the water monsters crew is changing wakeskating. Did you guys watch Austin's Going Pro video!? Seriously!? I don't think there are very many "Pros" who have the balls to try some of the things done in that video, it was absolute insanity.
Cable parks are an incredible resource and I never pass up a day at the cable with friends. I think they play a good part in the spread of wakeskating because of their ever-growing accessibility. That being said, I like the cable as a part of wakeskating. One part of a larger whole. I hope that the people who are introduced to wakeskating through cable have the opportunity to also ride ski and winch, but I understand that this is often not the case. I just don't want the future of wakeskating to be scores of cable videos with only a limited few getting to ride the other sources of pull. That being said, when something as sick as this gets thrown behind a cable I definitely get excited.

I think I finally came up with my opinion on flips on a wakeskate. I think it would get wakeskating a lot of attention, but the wrong kind. I fear the reactions of people who don't know wakeskating, getting very excited for a guy doing a bindingless wakeboard flip. I'm afraid that's what people who aren't in wake will call it, or something similar. I'm afraid to hear wakeboarders say how cool it is that a flip was finally landed. I respect wakeboarding and those who do it, but I do not want their approval. We are two different entities, and I don't see a future with wakeskating closely related to wakeboarding as a favorable one. My very worst fears come down to the idea that to most of the world, a flip on a wakeskate would be a "stunt". At that point wakeskating loses legitimacy as a passion-fueled, unique adventure of a sport, and becomes something that a crowd of hundreds might clap to at a sea world show. I know that's a very dramatic outcome, but even toned down I never want to see wakeskating reduced to a stunt show. I relish being able to tell people who ask me if a flip has been landed on a wakeskate that "No, one hasn't. Wakeskating is more technical, more creative than that. Wakeskaters are constantly looking for locks, dams, and spillways to play with; concrete, trex, and pvc to dance on; and new ways to look at our passion. Going upside down can be quite fun, but it's not what we're about." I think that doing a flip would only be a step backwards for wakeskating.
I'm tired now, it's finals week so I think I'll sleep for a bit. I look forward to the debate! |

| The Kid, I feel the exact same way about a flip being done on a wakeskate. I just didnt know how to put it into words. But with that being said, I think someone will do it this coming year just to get it out of the way and have it been done. Its going to happen eventually anyway. |

I have a feeling Im going to look like this after Ride Amoung Us
I hope we see some new variations of some older tricks. I would like to see some "restoration" of some lip tricks. Even if they have been done before. Sometimes cover songs come out just as good as the originals(as in ppls styles can shed a whole new light on the way something looks).
Not sure if we will see the flip. Though I would love to see some new boat riding. More steezy grabs from Grant. More destruction from Dr Hampson.
I think we will see more rail variations this year like the SPINE, and other neat objects, leading to new ways of doing the same tricks. More Concrete hopefully.
New winch gaps!
I still want to see: ( maybe not the right terminology but i think you guys get what im saying)
a front 360 shuv + backside 180
grab with a backside 180 body varial (so just grab long enough to toss the board a lil rotation and land blind)
shifty poke to late shuv( pull off your feets at the right moment and let her fly)
shuv to late shuv(idk if this has been done..maybe has..dont remember)
more flip tricks to rails
kickflip underflip
other randomness

I say a stunt is for the masses. It is to impress the masses with intention for commercial and/or financial gain. By masses I mean people not within the subculture of the sport |
