Lip tricks. Wtf happened to them and why don't we see them anymore?
Just because the winch came out doesn't mean we need to forget about lip tricks when we get the chance to get pulled behind a pwc/ lemons craft/ wake boat.
I miss seeing combo lines on the lip and now with everyone and their brother throwing flip tricks I'd love to see more than shuv on/ shuv off stuff.
Side note: any one ever try a TS w2w front side shuv to tweaked stale fish? I see it in my head and it looks nice. _________________ Scuba Steve's Wakeskate Film Libray |

for some of us, lip tricks never went anywhere!
I think it's a few things, but I think wake to wake stuff and people just trying to elevate their riding is what made people push lip tricks to the side. riders like nick taylor and ryan lemons always seemed to have some new lip trick variation in their vids over the past few years, which was funny and cool to me. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

Steven M, why don't you see lip tricks where? I don't think they have a place in real video parts anymore. they'll always be part of wakeskating and fun to do but, I don't think they're coming back to videos. |

I have a personal joke, which is that I might have been pretty good back in 2003. So I get that lip tricks really aren't the pulse and today nobody could get away with putting together a section like thomas did for snap back in 03 (and yes, we all know thomas can do more than lip tricks). I think it comes down to progression...for a real video that's "serious," dudes are going to want to step it up and blow minds, and lip tricks aren't going to do that. wake to wake backside flips probably will. if you want to be a bit more casual or show more of a rider's full riding style, then I could see lip tricks being included.
I'm not opposed to them because they're accessible...at the end of the day most anyone can learn some of them and you can learn stuff behind any kind of towing vehicle. that's why I became more drawn to wakeskating than wakeboarding. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

^ I fully agree.
on a side note i saw David_Roehm do a shuv late back footflip out a front lip behind the ski the other day..lip tricks can get pretty elaborate and can commonly be the little bit of spice you need in a set. |

someone in the kid's recent video did a kickflip front lip on the wake, and YEARS ago lemons did a kickflip out of a lipslide. so lip tricks can get technical! _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

Lip tricks have evolved into rail tricks.
Gnar-dogs these days are dialed enough to get techy on rails to the point where having lip tricks in a high-profile wakeskate video section is going to look out of place, and won't be on-par with what everyone is doing onto/on/out of rails now.
That said, lip tricks are still super fun and nobody can resist stoking out over a good lip line. I've always said that lip tricks are what gave wakeskating it's flow in the early years. They were a logical response to having a continuous flowing transition right in front of us (when being pulled by the traditional aquatic automobile) and I think wakeskaters should still be doing lip tricks until the sun goes out.
I'll send out some imaginary cookies to the first 3 people get footage of them landing "never done before" lip tricks, and post them in this thread
