Here's how i see it:
surfers are out in the ocean alone on a board trying to catch a wave. yeah they might bump into some people but whatever. they dont wear life jackets.
wakeskaters are usually on a cramped boat changing in close range to a bunch of dudes that dont want to see your junk. its just courtesy to put on some shorts and not stick your bulge into other peoples square, getting ready, stretching, getting other gear, moving throughout a boat, etc.
ALSO normally we wakeskaters have to wear life jackets and it's completely awkward for the rider and onlookers to see a big bulky upper torso, and skin tight body condoms below. something surfers dont deal with so it looks cool all fullsuit.
Sometimes i rock both depending on the day. for ease if its like 3 people in the boat and if no cops are around ill wear full suit only. sometimes i forget my shorts. for added style i'll put shorts and a t shirt on.
in the end, non of this matters your still riding a board on water we're the coolest mother f-ers around!!! |

I'll usually wear shorts over a suit only if I'm kiteboarding. In kiting it's more of a way to separate myself from the kooks, haha. So purely a style thing to make me WAYYYY cooler than everyone else.
But I don't mind having a sausage party at the cable dock. |

this is the best thread i've seen all season
all i got to say is bulges disappear in cold water and do not....i repeat..... do not attempt to recoil your sunken bulge
sothpaw is onto something with the vest........you are just top heavy with no trunks.....it's like using a footlong bun for a ballpark hotdog...yes u can do it, but seriously
clothing does offer some protection for your rubber, not that rubber isn't all the protection you need, but seriously case proven by my man sam.
also.....like the instahomey said......i rock em just cause i'm freakin cool. case in point.........image is everything......so it kind of completes the winter time look if you ask me...in short it is balance which is the longevity of life.....nobody, especially a bunch of water babies like ourselves wanna be caught dead in a weak pair of hand me down mesh lined baggies, then again being caught with no baggies at all tragedy it seems for most, but there are those, the few, the proud that can stand with out them. this is how we define our styles to become unique, embrace your own and your brothers and ride the mother til you can no longer hover.

^^^^ dude wakeskating naked is awseome. Your "thingy" flying every which way in the wind. I don't think people have felt that free since 1863. |

I'm with all of the people who said something along the lines of it really shouldn't matter. People talk about style a lot. Style is a really important thing in wakeskating, and I don't necessarily think that style ends with what your tricks look like. I can't say much about the wetsuit thing in particular because I don't wetsuit. We have like 3 or 4 months in TX where you need one at all. But where I stand on it, generally, is that if it puts your mind in a better place to wear anything (over your wetsuit, under your wetsuit, wherever), wear it. If it makes you more comfortable, even if all that means is thinking you look pretty good, chances are, it will compliment your own personal style and i definitely support that.
SEAMAN, I don't see why anyone would give you crap for wearing normal skate shoes. Honestly I don't know many people who wear wakeskate specific shoes, and I know very few people who disagree that there are much better feeling shoes to ride in than any wakeskate shoe out there. _________________ - Evan Molina |

Why is this in general wakeskating? Or even a thread for that matter? This is embarrassing. _________________ The promise of heaven out of reach.

If there's chicks on the boat, the battle of the bulge is in full effect... lol
If not, and im feelin steezy, i throw on some shorts.
If im feelin ninja status that day like Frye, i rock just the suit |

Throw up a post with some pictures or what everyone was throwing instead of the red carpet summary of what everyone was wearing that day. Us northerners want to see some action! |
