gabe's name is on there, it's just not as much of a focus as it was in that first mock up. (it's under the film noir in the first image I posted.)

Erich, props to whipping this quickie up in MS paint, I know I couldnt do it. |
cant tell if this is sarcasm or not, but its funny never the less.
esnow, I know I come off as brash and bias ect... but I am just an extremely honest person, and yes you are right, i guess i could have put things different swaying away from calling it "junk" like i did, but I really though it might have been a joke, and im not the only one who assumed that.
and i dont even know what to say about the "winch board" distortion is coming out with lol... All those are real movie covers... i wonder if they had/have to get permission to use them on the board? I dont know much of anything about copyrights ect. anyone?

One thing I've learned is that you can be honest without being an a-hole about it. And I say it like that because what kind of favor are you doing to anyone by being THAT critical? And I've only thought about it because I've been pissed off with people to the point where I let everything out, and now I question if that was necessary, and if it's really worth it to hurt anyone's feelings to that point (even if that wasn't the initial intention). Because deep down, the person you're being critical to cares about what they're doing or what they've produced.
and I would say tad is being highly sarcastic because someone else mentioned MS paint. and tad is also pretty respectful of other artists, probably because he is one and he's put himself on the line to create (and subsequently receive criticism and praise) just like erich and any other artist in wake (and everywhere else).
finally, i don't want to get too deep into this, but one thing erich has always encouraged with his graphics is room for personal interpretation. with nick's graphic from this past year, I think there's room for a lot of meaning. I guess just from stuff that's been said on here in previous years, to him being "the captain" and living on a houseboat, I think that boat and sparrow have a lot of meaning. plus, in my mind, I would have a hard time believing that the configuration of stars is completely random (not to mention the stars are a way to navigate or find one's way, making it all the more appropriate with the boat theme). some things have been said about the graphic elements in nick's board...I don't remember it all anymore, but that's what I get out of it. and in that regard, I can't say that the elements in that graphic are random or thoughtless.
anyway, that's actually a really good point about the movie covers (like obtaining permission to use them). Initially I was thinking the timing was really bad with that graphic theme, given what mutiny has been doing for the past year (not to mention they're killing it by re-applying the theme instead of just taking it and not creatively customizing it).

yookyle, that can happen?
electricsnow, No dout there was a lot of nautical and astronomical things incorporated in nicks graphic but nothing stood out to me at least like the previous years. I have to say, in that graphic less is some times more.

[quote="electricsnow"]-=AlexXx=-, I don't think people would have a problem with you having a different opinion if you didn't state it in such a brash way. it's easy enough to explain that something doesn't look clean or fonts clash without saying "I hope this is a joke" or "it looks like junk", etc. That example goes for a lot of people and not just you...I would think of it this way: if you were face to face with the person (not even saying erich, just saying any person who worked on a project and they were showing you their product), would you say their work looks like junk, or would you find a better way to describe what you think is going wrong? I know I wouldn't say it's junk, but I'm not that kind of person either.
anyway, things have changed since that first shot. here are some other images that were posted, along with distortion's new "board". All of this was on the integrity facebook page. I'm surprised mutiny is going with the movie poster theme again, but I do like the concept.
and I personally think the artwork on a wakeskate is important...outside of actually riding it, the artwork is the one thing on there that has some sort of artistic expression in it. I think dean's comment is pretty right on...I can think of lots of crappy wakeboard graphics that had colorful swirls and the brand name on it.
YEAH YEAH DUDE

-=AlexXx=-, some copyrights can expire. or maybe the movies are just old enough that anyone who worked on them is dead? ha

i'm thinking the distortion board is a joke guys...i mean, i'm hoping.
all those are posters on the board are from the website Jeff posted..and like someone said, its wakeboard sizes..
and i hope no one would be dumb enough to market a wakeskate as the "first ever board made for winching and hitting big drops" lol

I guess I should explain myself/Art... so the critics can rest easier on their pedestals or get knocked off... maybe they can some how understand my "Modus operandi" behind it... I love the unnecessary controversy they create... which by the way only makes what we do have more importance/mystery/controversy... so I say thank you!!! for caring enough to spend your time voicing your opinions good or bad... nasty or nice. at-least it's a deal and not a footnote... in fact it's all par for the course... I'm quite use to the flamings that come from some people on wakeskating.com when you create something.
...anyone here ever try to express themselves honestly without fear of what others think or say? I mean really? without negativity? cause without using the one who actually create something (creators momentum) your negative words are parasitic... you have to use a host to make your self sound important by having a vitriolic opinion. and it's perfectly ok with me if that's how you want to live...
But honestly, don't take this too harshly, but good or bad... what you think doesn't affect the out come or change the way we do things. I mean all I'm concerned with is what the Team likes or thinks is cool and myself... We don't have a focus group trying to figure out what everyone going to like this year... nor do we copy what other have done... or try to clone what someone did last year... it's about evolution and self expression and works of high art are individual. They bespeak a personality behind the work and who in this case it represents Gabe.
Gabe likes Miami Vice...
he like pink...
he like hot babes...
so we have a 60's period looking temp-let with sexy curves framing points of importance to give the gist of the Detective story... It's
never been done before... it's sexy ... i can't ever recall any wake related company using a sexually charged art like this... i was honestly thinking that would raise a few eyebrows. anyway bottom line is Gabe is Stoked i'm stoked... and that's that... if it's not your cup of tea cool... i'm not trying to please the masses... yeah it's not Miami Vice nor is it 80's that's too over done... that's why it's a 60's feel and i think it got nailed ...

Schmaltz, that looks AWEsome!!! love the fact that it's designed with something that's meaningful for the rider & for the love of art & not the masses.

i only met gabe for like a week or so and i thought the board nailed it, he's always rocking black and pink, who doesn't want a sexy lady gettin naked in a classy way, and the dudes face at the bottom of the board kinda looks like gabe...
keep up the hard work it's appreciated, the ones who do enjoy it don't always get online and post
