I'm certified. Did CPR on a real person in the ER the other day. I know what to expect and what to do. It's a good feeling. You never know when you'll need it and if something happened you'd feel terrible if you couldn't save someone. Every one should, especially since we are on the water. Good post PIRATE

My first job was being a lifeguard at a local neighborhood pool for 2 years. Saved a little kid once.

Why were you in the ER? Are you doing ride time?

I saved a kid who went under the other day... felt pretty heroic... but I don't know CPR, luckily the lifeguard that I beat out to the kid did...

Must learn!

How long does CPR certification last?
I got mine in high school. That was over fifteen years ago.
Am I still certified?

I still remember my ABC's (of CPR) and have recently read that chest compressions and providing breathing air is just as lifesaving for adults as chest compressions WITHOUT providing breathing air. What's the deal with that?

its called CCR. The reasoning behind it is this. Your blood has oxygen in it that prefuses your organs. That is far more superior then doing mouth to mouth. When you only do compresions your are continously forcing blood to the vital organs. This prevents cell damage to your organs which is KEY.

Basically, your blood is still good, but it's not pumping through your body. Keep the blood flowing, preserve the organs.

Also with everybreath you are forcing blood away from the heart.

Does that help at all?

No u need a new CPR class they will teach you how to use a AED. The "Shocker" Cool

Yea, I recently became a lifeguard over summer and they taught me with the AED, along with other various tools for pool related accidents. But CPR/CCR are proven methods to save a life and I'm glad I know how to perform both.
