So i've been going through a lot of rough times lately. deaths, and other issues to say the least. It made me wonder, what's the meaning of life, what is love, and why do we show these emotions. I know it's because were human but why. When emotion can cause so much pain and suffering but at the same time joy and happiness with love. I'm starting to wonder about it. It's like everything is starting to mean nothing. No im not on drugs. i've cleaned up. but its just like im numb all the time now. whats your out take on life and emotions and what it all means?
i know ive been ranting alot lately, but this is of course the internet where judgements and imaginations are able to run free. giving me every outlook on the situation and can helllp me explore possibilites.
Whats your 2 cents? |

I don't think there is an ultimate meaning to life, living is what you make of it. Have you read Brave New World? There's an amazing discussion near the end about several of the joys of life that cause a lot of pain, like love, religion, and even as basic as poetry. In the society that book contains, no pain exists, love and compassion are scary memories, and familys are horrifying. Everyone has sex with everyone, and whenever anything bad happens they take a drug called soma. Really a great book, it's a good possible outcome for what you have in mind. Is this world perfect or a dystopia? It seems horrible to us because it's so different.
My psychology teacher was great when he talked about love. "Where is the love guys? Can I crack open your chest and a whole lot of love will ooze out?"
I'm 17, so my experience with love is 0, but I think it's unavoidable if you find the right person. I have 2 friends who are more comfortable around each other than I've seen in anyone else, and it's awesome to see. I genuinely think they are in "love." Sure they're in high school, but I think if anyone in the world has a shot it's these two. They make me believe in love, or just an extraordinarily strong emotional connection with another person, which I hope I get to experience someday.
We don't love because we choose to, we love because that's what happens.
Again, I'm in high school, I know absolutely nothing of these things, I'm just sharing. |

Yo dude there is no meaning to life... your parents had sex and you were born. You are just an animal on this planet. You also happen to be a human being, which comes with having such wild emotions... People you know will die, leave, stop talking to you, that is life.
Just take a step back and breathe... see what you are doing? You are living. You should be happy to be alive dude. |

the society huxley depicted was not intended to be perfect. it's dystopic simply because its inhabitants lost all touch with anything "real," and if you read anything else by huxley, you will learn that his definition of happiness is embracing natural reality. BNW was basically his way of saying hey, f*ck you guys...slow down your destruction and your addiction and figure out what's really important.
as for love...good luck on that one man. don't get caught up in the would-be soulmate/counterpart bulljive. if you're down because of a relationship gone wrong, don't sweat it. relationships are work. love is whenever you find a person who is worth the work, worth the challenges, worth the sacrifice, etc. if you had one go wrong, then she wasn't the right one. i could ramble for hours about shizzle like this, but i won't waste anyone's time hah. _________________ i am the bear jew |

samcollett, I understand that's why Huxley wrote the book, I just thought it fit because of the final discussion between Mond And John about the worthiness of various morals for their happiness versus their harm on society.
Haha I'm not down at all, I have almost no relationship experience, I'm just spewing what I've seen of one of my friends. Never had a bad break up or anything like that. |

| crispy, Not sure what you were on, but that could very well be the reason for the "numbness". It may take a while for your brain to resume normal functions, including dopamine levels, which is a key issue when coming off of certain drugs |

RUSSIAN, i wasnt addicted to anything ever. i was always just very experimental. and i haven't done anything in over a year. I was also referring to numbness more metaphorically then anything.
samcollett, i don't believe in love anymore, im not sweating a indecisive girl either, they come and go. that might be my problem, i dont care enough to work at it, because i dont want to get hurt. i've loved once and once was enough for me. i mean sure if i could find that one girl, i'd be hands down. but im not going to search desperately for her, if she comes she comes.
The Kid, I will definately look into that book. i've heard about it but never read it, so wise for so young. im not much older but i wish i had the outlook on life you do when i was 17 bro.
gporter, so true man so true. life at its simplest outlook. but i always find wanting to know more about it interesting.
Raven, thanks man thanks. you always help a brotha out. sucks summers almost over, oc will retire shortly into its dormant state. maybe next summer ill make the move and live the ocean city life. get the hell away from this place.
thanks for posting everyone, i appreciate all the feedback even though i know.... well only 1 person who posted haha. but judge me how you want it just gives me more feedback, i take it all in and dont throw no hate your way. anyways im pretty much rambling at this point. |

1984 was by far the best book ive ever read.
for your question on emotion i think the quote " its better to of loved and lost than to never loved" or how ever it goes. honestly i would rather feel the highs and lows then to never feel anything. because when your low you still have hope. and for the whole answer to the world question im not gonna drop my two cents because more religious people will flip a biznatch |
