|
|
We finally got a 14' flat jon with a 35 horse mercury on it. The thing wont even dock start us, anyone know what pitch the prop should be? Or any other issues that could be causing this. A couple of friends think it is because we attach the rope low on the boat, they insist a pylon will make all the difference in the world. I disagree...
Any feedback is appreciated. |

I've messed with this with mine for a while, i only have a 25hp on a 14' jon. I started with a 10x15, could not get up. i bought a 10x13 and i could get up, it was just hard. luckily my wife ran over a bunch of rocks and killed that propeller, so i bought a 10 1/2 x 11 solas aluminum propeller for $59. it pulls me out of the water in about 3 or 4 seconds. a lower pitch makes a huge difference! _________________

yeah you want lower pitch, the lower the pitch the more power on the low end. |

dudeeeee everyone says you need a tower and thats total bs, get a splitter than does help even out the weight on the rear of the boat, other than that, your probably tryin way to hard to get up behind that motor, its all about letting the boat take you up instead of your arms pullin you up against it... keep tryin the light bulb will come on |

have someone sit up front, it will really help the boat plane out _________________ 941 |

Thanks guys, I know it's not me trying to hard, most of the crew have been on a skate for 2 years or more and behind a boat for years. It's a pretty old motor and a 2 stroke so were also dealing with that. Just tryin to get that baby buttoned up |

before you go buying a new prop and whatnot you really need to understand pitch and diameter. yeah, the lower the pitch the better your hole shot, and consequently the quicker you'll get up. but this cuts down your top end, so you need to be sure that the motor (and i'm sure it does) has enough top end to pull you, because if it's barely fast enough to pull you, you need to just learn to get up with a higher pitch prop. 1 pitch is generally 150-200 rpms, meaning that raising the pitch by 1 will decrease your rpm by 150-200.
also, what do you mean you have to deal with a 2-stroke? they're light, 2 times as powerful, and they're easy to work on/learn. even though 4-strokes might be the "overall" better motor (greener, no oil mixing, etc.), 2-strokes are much better for wakeskating.
and like triggamike said, you definitely do not need a tower. don't get to spending money when it's not necessary. i've seen my buddy get up behind a reno skiff with an 8hp yamaha. _________________ i am the bear jew

is that the white aluminum one i let you have? or the original aluminum one that you had? i heard that yamaha changed their stock pitch up the year before i bought my motor so i was wondering.
p.s. i'll be in baton rouge for good on monday _________________ i am the bear jew |

My stainless props still at your house blake... i need to get it.
I guess we give you props?
But yea dude... I'm pretty sure it's the way you're trying to get up... Don't plow, you have to kinda glide up easily, lean forward as much as you can while you get up.
also you can try to seafoam the motor to clean it out a bit for more power. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2VJfZOomIM |

Thanks again guys, we're waiting on a new prop and a water pump impeller. Once we get everything tightened back up we will be trying again. I cant really imagine how it could be me trying to hard or not just letting myself glide through the water. I pop right up behind every other pull ive had, (including our 6.5hp winch), Like i said this definitely isnt my first time being pulled by any means. |
