As always gang, I had a blast!!! Thanks a ton to Ricky, Don, and Dave for bringing out their rails and tow vehicles. Its a ton of work to haul a boat and rail out to a lake, set-up, ride, and then take it down so I really appreciate it!!! Also thanks to Tyler and Chris for bringing out a ski and some LF demo gear to beat on. This event is special to me because of the wide spectrum of ability levels that show up. Its awesome to not only see pros throw down but the weekend warrior learn something new. Ricky's first wake to wake, DeeDee's rail attempts, Stara's butterslide 180's, Carsons rail riding(shuv off)...this is what this event is all about. Being able to roll out to the lake and camp + chill with your friends + demo the newest 2010 gear + grab some pointers from the top dogs =Convergence.
The vibe of this event is what motivated me to create my "Product To The People" Tour this summer. More on this later but mark your calendars for May7/8/9 for another gathering. Great pics so far, lets see some more. Again, thanks to everyone who showed up and participated!!! Love Life. _________________ Love Life

Sucks you guys kept it "low key". Makes some people feel left out. Well maybe not some people but I sure feel left out
Why was there nothing about this? Just curious if there was a REAL reason. IE too many drunk idiots..? |

Before you guys read this, keep in mind that these are my opinions and they are based off of what I have seen over the past 4 years. I really hope I am not upsetting anyone by posting this, but I have been wanting to say it for some time now.
Macthc, It is a complete bummer that it had to happen this way, but there was a REAL reason.
For the past few events, it has become more about the partying, drinking, smoking etc. than the real reason for converging, wake skating. It seemed as if it was groups of riders coming as groups, staying as groups, and not really involving with others. At the Fall 2009 event in particular, there were several people who showed and did not even touch the water all weekend. Some decided to blow darts from the shore at a buoy floating a couple feet from the rail, where riders were falling every 5 minutes.
the majority of the people "invited" if you call it, to this Convergence were the people that attended the first 4 or 5 convergences. back when there was 10-15 people, all sitting around the same fire, watching each other ride, and riding on each others boats.
Bottom line is that while it seems as if this isn't the right way to go about doing this, because it IS about converging as wake skaters, not separating, it is the only way. Until it is known that this event is about wake skating, and riding with other wake skaters things are going to be different.
With that being said, it was a great event! As goes with every Convergence I have ever been to. But I do feel as if this event captured the way I felt riding behind a crowded boat in the fall of 2006!
One last thing! I really don't mean to sound like a downer in anyway, and I know that I am truly lucky to be able to have been involved in every convergence since......almost the beginning. |

This is blowing my mind. Don't call it a norcal convergence, call it a midcal invitational.

So your saying this is gunna be the normal convergence where everyone(who is respectful) is invited? |

I was at the very first convergence.. hell it was maybe 14 of us. I remember joking about the idea with a friend before we (nor cal wake) organized the first one. Taking a winch set into the night on a rail we couldnt see while our hands were going numb as we warmed them over mitch's little camping stove. everyone watching everyone ride ( we only had one rider at a time due to the location) and everyone just getting stoked when someone landed their first rail or something. for the most part it was our first time (well mine at least) meeting other wakeskaters, well at least being able to put a face to the e-net identity.
I missed every convergence from the first one till the fall of '09 and ill just say this.. dam did things change.. not saying one way or the other if it was good or bad.. but it definitely evolved from what i remember..
looked like a good time guys, wish i could have made it. _________________ Scuba Steve's Wakeskate Film Libray |

I drove down for the Fall '09 convergence, the first one that I've been able to logistically make work, and completely agree with the observations you made.
I don't get why there's any reason to get upset about it, especially if you're someone who's never made the effort to make it out before.
Great pics everyone, love to see when people go back to their roots and realize what it's all about, riding and getting stoked of each other. _________________ The aforementioned postings and musings are the opinions of myself in their entirety and are not the opinions of wakeskating.com |

I'm really bummed I missed this one, but buying a house/moving trumps everything else. That being said, it IS getting out of hand(the last one had a 1-4 ratio of riders to partiers) and things need to be changed/reorganized to insure that it stays a convergence and not an "event" like spring ride has become. Big-up's to Awatts for taking the reign's and putting together a good vibe |
