http://www.chegg.com/

Has anyone ever used this site or anything similar to rent books for school? Is it worth it? I'd really love to save the money and rent them, instead of actually buy them.

Buy from amazon, then sell to a book store, or a stupid kid on campus, most of the time you can break even

Lets see what 2marrows classes will bring. I usually just buy from the book store, but maybe ill try out amazon this semester.

450 for books for me this semester. i got Smash from behind.

for my books amazon isn't much cheaper and you can't sell them back. Around here the book stores will only take back books bought from their store.

DMoneyy,
I did, and would've actually saved money buying from the bookstore. If the book you're renting has any kind of online access code for homework (masteringchemistry, masteringbio etc) then it will not be guranteed to work, and that's a 45 dollar charge on top of what you pay for the book. I'm beyond pissed off because they don't mention this unless you look at the help page of the site.

Do any of you guys have to buy 'readers' in addition to your text books? It's a compilation of extra articles that you have to read in addition to the textbooks. If not, be happy, because they're never returnable.

I had to do that last semester for my Greek Culture class, even though I never read any of the articles(got a B in the class). I really need to stop buying books, I never read any of the material. I spent greater than $400 last semester, the book store only bought back $25 worth. It seems that my school changes editions of the book the semester after I take a class every year. I also didn't have a cd with one of my books so they wouldn't buy the book back.

There has to be something illegal about the prices of textbooks. That and printer ink.
