Looking to get myself my own board so I can make trips down to the gulf and the atlantic coast more often to get some riding in. I've surfed one time before, and had a blast. I was on a short board and I did fine. I just don't know what kind of board I should be looking for. I'll probably only make it down to the beach when it's 5' plus. And I'm a beginner.. So What should I be looking for? _________________ wake____ing=love/life |

get something big. Everyone will say not to but there retarded. A fish would be good but get something thicker 2.75-3 thick. Dont be scared of foam its your friend. If you surf at a popular spot, its alot funner to get a crap load of waves cause you can sit further outside then everyone else. Also, Look up pictures of Mr Lopez surfing pipe in the late 70's, he's doing it on a 7ft board that is 3" thick...... are you better then 1978 G-lopez ? Deffinetly not. Dont listen to the cooks, thin potato chips are a fvcking fad.... I reckomend watching some youtube videos of CJ Nelson longboarding, It will change your life, and your mind as to what you thought was possible on that big of a board. _________________

Chad H, Hit some garage sales near the coast or check out craigslist down there, literally anything you find without holes in it will be good for you to learn on as long as it's at least 6'... 3 boards in my quiver were made in the '70s-'80s and they still shred. Don't get too picky until you learn how to ride waves... _________________ √ |

				nick,

Length was my main concern, I'll probably pick one up around april for my birthday..

One more question. Is there any time of the year that's better known for creating waves other than hurricane season? _________________ wake____ing=love/life |

Chad H, look for cold fronts sweeping through the coast. winter is the surfing season and as far as length i wouldn't go over a 7footer. I like to keep mine short and thick for the skate feel.

edit* if you're getting your board in april and don't want to ride in cold water you would probably be better off getting a long board for the small summer chop. _________________ HOTDOGS! |

				bromfutter,

Does the atlantic coast get bigger in the summer? I figure if i'm living in auburn this summer I can make some weekend trips to savannah or cocoa beach. Most of my surfing will be in the fall _________________ wake____ing=love/life |
