anybody seen this thing yet? i really want to try one...

http://www.freebord.com/main.html

looks seriously fun. wondering if the straps make it even more dangerous than bombing on a regular longboard

had some really nasty falls this year on my dervish already. bombing a street in heavy traffic is stupid, stupid, stupid

My friend bought one. We rode a few hills. Nothing too steep here in Louisiana though.

It was kind of sketchy. It is nothing like a skateboard or wakeskate. It is more like a snowboard because you have to ride it on edge. You must transfer edge to edge very quickly or the board gets out of control.

The bindings are fine, you can jump out of them pretty fast if you have to bail.

It definitely takes some time to get used to the edge transfer.

that is good to know. so how do you feel the downhill experience compares next to good hillbombing lonboard?

It is hard to compare a longboard to the freebord. They are two totally different feels. The edge to edge transfer on the freeboard almost feels unnatural and I have snowboarded for over ten years.

So you've posed a good question that is hard to answer. My opinion is that if you want to learn to ride a board with a totally different feeling from anything else, go for it.

I won't buy one because my friend already has one and there are not enough hills to charge in south Louisiana.

Other than that I have no complaints. It is fun learning something new, so I would give the freeboard my seal of approval.

Take that for what it is worth.
