let me tell you a little something.. not once have i ever had a dog not appreciate or get tired of a good head scratchin'. dogs are something we take for granted more than anything in my opinion. they just want some love.

pet your dog.

It's pretty impossible not to pet Rocko any time he's in the same room as you. Cool

From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog," or, "that's a lot of money for just a dog." They don't understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a dog."

Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog." Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog," but I did not once feel slighted.

Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.

If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you will probably understand phases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise." "Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. "Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.

Because of "just a dog" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future. So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.

"Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.

I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a dog" but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a human."

So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog." just smile, because they "just don't understand."

A DOG'S TEN COMMANDMENTS...

1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.

2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.

3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.

4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.

5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.

7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.

9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.

10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so

I wish I could explain to my dogs my feelings for them but the only way is to spoil them and I do haha

this is Dexter he is a young maniac always wanting to play with Duncan and teasing him as well.

This is Duncan he is getting into the gray ages but still loves to play and be petted. He has been with my family for 12 years, got him from the pound when he was just under one. I fear the day he passes..

This thread's killin me, haha. I just got my first dog about 2 months ago and it was one of the best decisions of my life. My entire life we always had family dogs but this is the first one I've ever had while out on my own. He's totally changed my whole life, makes me get out of bed an extra 45 min. early so we can go on daily walks, manages to keep me in a good mood after I get home from my stressful job, and is motivating me to keep saving so I can afford to move to a place that has an actual back-yard for him to run around in.

I can't remember where I read it but there was a vet who said something along the lines of (in regards to putting your pet to sleep):

'When we ask you if you want to stay in the room or not, stay. They always look for you when you don't.'

I think that says a lot about dogs and their unconditional love.

Dogs are by far one of the most underrated treasures this earth has. Any time spent in the company of a dog, or any other pet for that matter, is time very well spent. This is my pooch Grizzly.

This is my dog Nittany, she is now 8 years old Very Happy
She loves to swim and fetch (only in the water)
I cant even begin to describe how much I love her
Shes never bitten anyone and is probably the most lovable puppy in the world
She even shows her affection for you, when you love on her she talks to you in her own way of a very soft contented purr

I couldnt imagine how life would be without her becuase she is such a huge part of my day every day.

One thing i cant stand is that alot of people are so ignorant that even though the pooch has done nothing wrong to them, they can still be mean and unfriendly to it. I had this kid at my house earlier this year who kicked my dog, and when i saw that, it sparked a sort of rage inside of me. Really the only time I've let it all loose on someone and i ended up with a broken hand.

Appreciate and love your dogs, they will love you right back.
