Oh my....what a discussion. I just found this. I didn't even read all that nonsense, but I would love to share my opinion on the matter. There are a few legit girls out there, and when I say few, I mean 2 or 3.

Sponsorships come easier to women due to the marketing tatic that this industry uses. That's it, that's all. It is way easier to obtain a sponsorship as a chick, because there are fewer girls out there. It is smart business....anything out of the ordinary draws attention to a brand, which is the entire part of marketing and brand management (which includes sponsorships). These companies are not going to pay you or give you free gear unless you are doing something in return for them, like getting their company noticed and in turn selling more of whatever product they have.

The majority of girls are not as good as the the majority of guys that ride, simply because guys aren't as scared to get hurt. Women tend to think more logically than men, so they are more worried about breaking thier nose on a rail (or at least I am) and I think that the sport is much more mental for women than men. I can totally mind-f myself into not doing something that I know I am physically capable of. If they aren't as good then, so what? They still love this sport just as much as any guy out there and if they can make a career out of it, well good for them. Girls have to work twice as hard to "prove" themselves in this industry and that sucks for them.

In every kind of sport, women are seperated from men, why should this one be any different? I can't wait until Toe Jam has a women's divison.

You guys having a crappy attitude towards women progressing in the sport is not cool. Obviously, women aren't as good as all the guys out there. It has always been that way, and it prob always will be. You should encourage the girls in your crew to compete and to push themselves past what they think they are capable of. Don't hate because you're better than them and you aren't sponsored.

JEnna, no one on here gives a who if girls wakeskate or not, heck probably most people on this forum love the fact that there are girl wakeskaters. However when girls start throwing themselves constantly at sponsors, and making web page's of themselves to market themselves it starts to become a joke to the industry. The sponsors will come to them when they are ready to be picked up. Another thing, no one here said that woman should have to compete with men. They should have their own division just like skateboarding. No one here is complaining that girls are getting sponsored before they are, just that girls should slow it down and maybe showcase their riding once its at a level to be showcased. In the end it looks like this argument has got changed around from should some of these girl riders be considered at a pro riding level to men hate all girl wakeskaters.

just check out the womens division of maloof money cup from last year and ask yourself this question again...

-LoGiK-, blah, you totally took that the wrong way. I was not saying that it's boys against girls. I was just explaining, from my perspective, the differences in how you guys look at girls in this sport. I think I may have read the previous posts wrong or something, because it sounded like there were some bitter feelings about sponsorships. My bad, mister.

I don't think that all girls just try and get sponsored....In my experience, guys are more worried about "throwing themselves at sponsors" than girls anyways. but whatever. They should showcase their riding for sure. I agree with you 100%. Love you James.
