On Aug 1st, our 12 year old boy is competeing in the Gatorade Free Flow near Sacramento!! He is a pretty solid skater, especially for his age, but this will be his first comp.
Any of you guys that have competed before have some tips or advice for him? Especially if you have been on this tour before. What are the judges looking for?
Thanks,
ed.

most judges look for originality, use of course, style, speed, difficulty, etc....whatever makes him stand out over the others. I think a big plus is if he can use the entire course in his runs. Don't get stuck hitting the same obstacles over and over. Just my 2 cents Very Happy

He's skating in the Open division even though he could go in the juniors (12 and under). The board shop that sponsors him said he is a little too advanced for the younger set. But the tour is an ameteur competition so I'm guessing no pros are skating.

Kid512, Kid512 is right, you can't just enter any contest and say you are a pro. To be a pro in skateboarding you need to have a pro model. Most skaters will ride on the am team for a long time then when the time is right their board company will give them a pro model moving them up from the am status
