First off, i dont smoke, anything.... maybe a cigar if there is a celebratory occasion now and again but pfft, i cant even remember the last time i did. Any way. Obama signed for this new tax to increase price of cigs and any other tobacco from .62 cents to $1.10... and but its NOT limited to that. Obama signed this Wednesday and that afternoon they came into my dads gas station and every single other place in town that sold cigs/tobacco and counted his entire inventory and added up all the "tax money" and charged him over 4 and a half grand. My dad was outraged and can in no way sell even 2 grand of cigs in a month to pay for this tax on EVERY carton/pack in his store. The gov't already monthy sends him a bill for the amount of cigs/tabacco he sells to collect tax's but now he has to do that ON TOP of this 4 and a half grand that he has to pay off for CURRENT inventory. He has never been charged tax for current inventory before this time, which he still is going to have to sell, and pay for the tax's later. Double Taxation? Unconstitutional? Smoking going to be costing everyone alot more money, and now costing my family, who doesnt even smoke WAY more.... This isn't even America any more... Communism. With just the other gas stations and liquor stores on my dads street that sell tobacco the Fed. Gov't has made more then 50grand, and Jupiter is a small town. I cant even imagine all over South Florida. Cigs are being stolen already my dad said. A liquor store got robbed and they stole only smokes and chew, they didnt even touch the liquor, almost 2grand worth my dads friend told him. Thanks Obama, killing the middle class and creating communism/socialism one step at a time.....

You both lose all credibility when you cry communism/socialism Please tell me how raising the tax on cigarettes is socialism or communism?
Did you not expect the tax to include current inventory or something? You'd have to pay the taxes either way, which is passed down to the consumer so what's the problem? I really doubt they told you that you had to pay the tax before selling the inventory. They're just making sure you don't stiff them.
So you're pretty much bitching about your Dad not being able to dodge paying his taxes? Sure would be nice to charge a higher price due to the tax all while not actually passing that along to the gov
Why is it that the Republicans have such an issue paying their taxes? They'll be the first to wave flags and say God Bless America but they sure as fvck don't like having to come out of pocket for it _________________ -Paul |

yea but, if they keep raising the taxes, who will put a limit on it?
when i lived in tejas, they raised the tax on cigs several times, i didnt complain.
but it got kind of annoying, the only question that i have is really, why do they keep upping the taxes? _________________ Peace through firepower!! |

| sounds to me like your dad should learn to control his inventory better. if your not gonna sell all those cigarettes then why have them in inventory? im sure the consumer would like fresh smokes instead of some old crap thats been sitting around for months. |

its a 6 trillion dollar war
what'd you think we'd never have to pay for it?
lets try and break it down for you, say 1 dollar = 1 second
well 6 million seconds = 67 days.....
we owe 6 trillion.... that breaks down to 189,276 years...
and your surprised they have to create new taxes and pay it?
no one complained when we started this war, sorry to shock you but the bills are due

| uidzero, People like different brands of cigarettes. He keeps alot in stock because he sells over 50 kinds of cigarettes, not just Marlboro reds... Plus all the promotional by one get one free stuff that camel and everyone does.... You cant just order 2 packs.. u gotta order by the carton, and if my dad didnt have those extras he would lose customers that came in and were turned away because they did not have their smokes in stock. Doesnt seem like you understand business man. There is a lot of compition between gas stations on one corner or street. Every little things counts. My dad has never tried to "dodge" paying tax's, Ever, and its kinda of offense that you even bring that up. But how does this make any sense. He has owned this gas station for 8ish years now and at the end of each month he pays tax's on each tobacco product after he sells it, why should he be randomly expected to shell out money for product he has yet to sell? Why all of a sudden is it changing. If you were in his shoes you wouldn't be happy either, because it makes NO sense to do this all of a sudden. Im sorry but how is this not socialism/communism. Take from the middle class's money, and give to the poor... Redistributing the money.... Obamas plan for this money hes stealing from the middle class is to put it toward universal health care that has not worked in ANY other country, ever. |

burn0n3@420, I'm guessing because its very unhealthy and people who smoke and get diseases may have to be paid by the government through certain programs. Just a guess _________________

-=AlexXx=-, really wow, i wasn't be rude at all, whats sad is you goto something negative so quickly
its sad that everyone thinks that you can just goto war and not have anything change on the home front
and by the way when you say he is "my" president that's just ridiculous, like it or not, he is YOUR president, if he isn't really YOUR president then you don't live in OUR country
taku, I'm not gonna argue with a wall, I just stated some information out to help someone that seemed to have a problem, if he wants to complain let him, its hard to hurt my feelings, I'm an adult |

Ok so you think that he's raising taxes just to give it to the poor? We had a budget surplus when Clinton left office, we are now 11.5 trillion in debt (not the same as the budget I know). How exactly are we going to fix that without raising taxes? It has absolutely nothing to do with socialism or communism. That's an idea that was fed to you by the right wing media so that you'd have something to parrot without any fvcking clue what you're actually saying. I guess it's you who doesn't understand business since you can't grasp this concept.
Also, what does your Dad do with product he doesn't sell? Does he send them back to the manufacturer, throw them away, or just let them sit until they're sold? _________________ -Paul |

-=AlexXx=-, Yeah, thats sounds like a shiznackle deal. The same thing happened to me at the store that i run. BUT...... Your reps have been telling you this for weeks. Your dad didn't get blind sided by it, and if your Phillip Morris/RJ Reynolds reps like there jobs at all, they told you about this, and told your Dad to run down his inventory, take inventory, then place a new order. (thus making the "bill" minimal) Not raggin on your Dad at all, its a tough buisness i know..... trust me.
Anywho, communist/socialism stabs are retarded.
The reason for the hike on cig taxes is very honorable. Simply stated: If you like to smoke and kill yourself good for you. Were going to tax the shizzle out of you for your "choice" to kill yourself, so that we can make sure that children do not go with out healthcare.
stupid baby killing muslim. _________________

my parents owned several gas stations and made most of their money selling cigarettes. alex is right. its a big business and cigarette smokers are actually quite picky when it comes to their brand of smokes.
i quit smoking cigarettes last month...and the 3.5 grams I just got of the green stuff, still tax free
but paying higher taxes on cigs makes sense...especially if we are moving to a universalized health care system. all about preventative medicine you know...if you don't get sick, then we don't have to pay for your treatment _________________ "it is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation." |
