Releasable spools are nice to have if you must swim across something and can't walk it the whole way, and you can run the engine to warm it up without it reeling any line in.
I've always thought a detachable seat and a cupholder would be cool  |

a nice comfy throttle. my first winch did not have this and it sucked!
a break isn't necessary, but it seems like a nice luxury
and a detachable seat is in the works for my next winch  |
