So I just ordered a new computer tower and it only has one vga hook up. What if I used something like this for two monitors? http://www.deepsurplus.com/Computer-Cables-Accessories_2/VGA-Y-Splitter-Cables/VGA-Y-splitter-cable-2-HD15-females-to-1-HD15-malebrfont-colorblackAs-low-as-2-62-font would that work or only recognize it as one
Question

it depends on your video card.... some video cards can only handle one monitor, and it might have really awful resolution if it works. What kinda video card is?

The only thing that will do is make it so that both monitors display the same picture. If you want to have a true dual monitor set up you have to get a video card that supports it.

Yep, if you want to see the same thing on both monitors then that will work. But if you want to use both as one large desktop you'll need a video card with dual vga's or you can buy a cheap video card and add it assuming you have extra slots on the MB for it.

I had an option when ordering the computer for dual vga slots but it was 89 dollars so I assumed it wouldn't be worth it. If I would buy it now would it be worth it? heres the link to the computer http://www.pacificgeek.com/product.asp?id=66491&C=220&S=982 its the in the upgrades

here. I looked on dell at the docs for that computer and you should have an agp slot. Try this card

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133236&Tpk=agp%20video%20card

It is 10 bucks more than other cheap agp video cards but it is made by a relieable vender (PNY).

It is easy as hell to instal, you may need to turn off your video that is onboard (on the motherboard) which is not to difficult.

Here is a link to the online manual of that computer

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx260/en/ug/index.htm

stOAKed, Just like the quality of how the things come installed sucks, you may need to reconnect your CD drive, run BIOS to make sure it reads it right, and screw in a few loose parts that hold the motherboard.

Using a Y connector will have a bad quality output. Order the cheapest yet will give result for your satisfaction.
