This is just a list of the guys on the CT. It doesn't include the pros who chase waves on there like Machado, Shane Dorian, Jamie Obrien etc etc or up and coming grommies like Owen Wright, Julian Wilson or Brother Andino. Pretty crazy that the bottom of the barrel surfer on the tour is pulling in over $100k. To me Slater is underpaid. I know $2.2 million is a lot but he seriously is surfing. Over half of the people who watch the events live on the webcasts only watch to see Kelly surf his heat. Without Kelly, Quiksilver would have been bankrupt a number of years ago when they were in big trouble (which they are in again). Very interesting that Bobby Martinez makes $350k from Monster. I always wondered how much the energy drink companies paid their big athletes. Reef was his main sponsor but over this summer his contract was up and he went into negotiations. They offered him $800k!!!! AND HE DENIED IT because the other guys with similar ranking on tour are making around the $1.5 mil mark. Only difference is they negotiated their contracts when we weren't in a depression, but whatever, he can get by on the $350k I dont feel bad for him. He also married a girl from the 3rd richest family in Australia. She just wanted herself a little surfer boy hahaahaha

I watched the interview after Bobby won Teahupoo a couple weeks ago and they asked if his wife was there, and he said Tahiti is a boys trip. I guess the accommodations at Teahupoo are "not for the wives". They stay at the locals houses, which are all pretty run down. It isn't the Tahiti trip you envision where you are staying in a room on the water, this is the real Tahiti lol.

Just riding the WQS costs between 60-80 grand if you want to move up, and the WCT costs almost double that...

Professional surfers do bring in the cash, but look at what the competitive arena has done to the art. In places where the surf culture used to be deep-rooted now treat surfing like the new football. They have given up so much of the soul... I would never wish that on wakeskating.
