edit: if any of you gus are up in knoxville around the beginning f july, check out our wildwings cafe. we have a wakeskate comp up there for all skaters. last year lemons won 1st some guy from ATL won 2nd, and a dude from our hometown won 3rd. 3rd prize was 300. not too bad. Smile

72ndstwaffleAMI, Actually it would be Blast 3...The First was in Ybor Next to Czar in 2003 or 4 I think and the @nd was Blast Part Duex, and that was at McCormicks BC (Before Cable). Then we had a polar bear in February at the Local Mastercraft Dealer, That had a Beginner section as well. The reason you don't see many more competitions Grass Roots style is

1) Sponsors hardly ever come through on time...dont get me wrong we love our sponsors, but there is so much red tape when it comes to this stuff. And most of the time sponsors make us refer to their sales reps for Flow and product but the only give them like 500$ a year for stuff like that.

2) Materials are a *&^%$ to procure and really expensive if you cant get them donated. Its hard to throw an event when you have to spend 500$ for stuff you know your not going to recoup.

3)Cleanup is equaly as difficult for 2 guys to do afterward and there is hardly ever anyone willing to stay for the whole term....(thank you Billy Olds for all your help however, and anyone else Im forgetting who does help tremendously)

4) Insurance is getting harder to get for events as well. And when you do you get it...there is always one in the crowd who takes it too far...some of you older cats know what Im referring too.

5) Getting peeps top come is hard. There are so many competitions out there you have to plan 4 months in advance if not sooner so you dont have yours the same day as someone else.

5)If you have had the energy to do all of the above and get people to show AND the spectators to come...(really hard as well) and Put your best foot forward and everything goes off with out a hitch The details are most certain going to swallow anyone up that hasnt done this before or at least helped on a few from start to finish.

There is more than meets the eye when it comes to this stuff. I however would be glad to consult anyone who is brave enough to do so and so would Tampa Jimmie I am sure. (he showed me the ropes BTW) I will gladly help out in anyway I can and give any advice or reminders to do such an event. You can PM me and Ill give you my number.

yes chriscut that's what i was mainly aiming towards, because what WSJASON said is true about sponsors and sponsoring smaller events, it sucks.
and judging by the amounts of posts on this topic people are somewhat careless.

what about the idea of a
wakeskate cookout?

hope this will push thru... if ever this happens, i wanna see the beginner's comp! must be exciting for all the beginners. it's a good motivation to push yourself to learn something new and to get more friends into wakeskating. it's really fun. hope to see vid and fotos soon. Wink
