Must see. WOW. not much of a fan of suburus but wow. hate the new look of the imprezas, but nothing beats them on a rally track, so much traction and control, its insane. Rob was so funny hahaha. great vid, the slow made made it so crazy to watch, Ken is an incredible driver. |

Uh..... The past 4 years of the WRC would disagree with this statement... The last two chassis have been pretty much terrible, to the extent that Subaru no longer is involved with WRC.
Good driving, I'd like to see the out takes though, IMO rally is the most difficult kind of motorsport, at the very least it's right at the top with F1 and LeMans. You have to master so many different types of surfaces. _________________ The aforementioned postings and musings are the opinions of myself in their entirety and are not the opinions of wakeskating.com |

Yes, he was truly a phenomenal driver. Actually growing up one of the race chassis owned by my neighbor used to be driven by his younger brother, Allister McRae. (VW F2 kit golf) Truly a shame that he passed, between him and Richard Burns, rallying has lost a lot of phenomenal people in the last few years.
yookyle, IIRC he is sponsored by Subaru, for competing in Rally America. Although I thought it was interesting that Subaru didn't give him a racing shell, but instead he had a new WRX STI. Just because someone is a skilled driver doesn't mean that it's the most awesome car evAr.
Ken Block is a great driver, but part of the reason why it's so impressive is that we're not really exposed to rallying here anymore. Ken Block probably wouldn't even stand a chance in the WRC against guys like Sebastian Loeb, Hirvonen, Grönholm, or Solberg.
If you don't believe what I'm saying, feel free to look at the WRC manufacturers points standings for Subaru in 2006, 2007, and 2008, where they finally withdrew. Last time a Subaru won a WRC event was in 2006 at the Cyprus rally.
I don't mean to come off as a rally snob, but apparently I am one. _________________ The aforementioned postings and musings are the opinions of myself in their entirety and are not the opinions of wakeskating.com |

Rob was in their with the paintball gun the same way the dude on the segway was in the first video, as an obstacle for ken to do donuts around. The paintball gun was just a fun way to incorporate him. And yes the paint is missing from the following shot but the shot following it has the paint in the window again.

gotta agree with you dragon88, he wouldnt stand a chance against the WRC guys. just because he has a bit of money and exposure. in saying that ken block would beat any of them in gymkhana. |

I'm not sure about that Sebastien Loeb is just a phenomenal driver period, I'm guessing you could damn near put him in any car in any event and he would be right up near the top. Keep in mind that a lot of these guys grew up doing autocross, as that is sort of the grassroots of motorsports, so it's not like it would be the first time they were exposed to an open circuit like in gymkhana.
It would be interesting to see though, although their driving would probably not be as flamboyant as Ken Block's in that video. "Drifting" usually isn't the fastest way through a corner, and while it looks cool and demonstrates car control, it usually slows you down. I'd much rather see that then the "rally car" in the X-games. But my hatred for "rally" being in the X-games goes beyond the scope of this thread. _________________ The aforementioned postings and musings are the opinions of myself in their entirety and are not the opinions of wakeskating.com |
