k so, i just built a winch this month, and i'm gonna post pics of it real soon, but i have a tav2 like lots of people and i don't know why people are making releasable spools because it is super easy to walk out.. i run mine out... i dont get it..

Right this is true it is better to have a pound or two of weight so the line stay tight to the winch and dose not get cought on every little thing in the way. when the spool free wheel's it will rat nest on you i think releasable spool's are a bad idea earn your turn

ride5 - what clutch bearings are you using? can you send a link or specs? i really want to install this on to my next spool...

Here is my solution for a releasing spool.
It's not perfect, but it works really well! I drilled a hole in the spool axle an put a bold in there. When we remove that, we can slide the sprocket on the axle so that the spool can rotate freely. Like I said, it's not the perfect solution but I love it! and it's I think the most cheap way of making a realeasable spoool!
