Maybe I'm just stupid but this riddle is destroying my mind

One day 3 guys walk into a hotel the bell boy says your room for the three of u will cost $30 . So each guy pulls out a $10 bill and hands it to the bell boy. the bell boy brings the $30 back to the manager and he says they get a discount of $5 so the manager gives the $5 back to the bell boy to return to the 3 guys. the bell boy cant think of a way to divide the $5 between the 3 guys so he gives each of them $1 and keeps $2 for him self. So they each payed $9 to stay in this room that is 9 times 3 is 27 so thats $27 + the $2 in the bell boys pocket that is $29 . Where is the other dollar?

It's unsolvable, there's no way in hell a hotel that costs $10 a night exists. Therefore, this riddle is shenanigans.

This is a semantic fallacy. The premise is false, which you can see when you work the equation backwards. The men DID NOT pay $9.00 each for a total of $27.00 for the room. They each essentially paid $8.333 for the room for a total of $25.00. Then add back the $2.00 the guy kept, equaling $27.00. Then add back the refund each man got back ($1.00 per man). This brings you back to your correct beginning total of $30.00

CK512, that's kinda confusing. I would say you just subtract the two dollars instead of add. So it should be $27- $2 = $25 = the price of the room.

CK512, I thought about that when i heard the riddle it and it makes sense but its when i think that as far as the customers know they payed 27 total and the guy kept two that bugs me
