JIM-BRANTON, that's a good argument starter. _________________ NORML.org

My sister was baptized tonight, she's 25.. it was pretty weird being at church being that I don't follow a specific religion. The pastor talked about random issues revolving around love and inclusion and at one point he brought up President Obama singing a bill into place last week to begin federal funding of stem cell research. He bashed the idea for about 10 minutes and at one point said "even though they will be shipped off to be destroyed anyways, it's the principle of the matter."
The entire time I was trying to figure out how he rationalizes not helping living people with families and feelings... over human tissue that was never destined to become anything more than charred tissue in some incinerator someplace. But it's the principle of the matter. _________________ chance favors the prepared mind |

Long and drawn out argument made way too short, they're not down with the 'playing God' aspect of it all. Like with women, rationalizing isn't going to get you anywhere. _________________ facebook.com/TheLiquidPlayground

My long counter argument can be partially summarized by saying I do not equate conception with life, that is the underlying difference. So there is no "human life" factor to me. Embryonic stem cells, IMO happen to be tissue that has the potential to be life, but is not life, and was not pre-destined to be life. So utilizing tissue that was never destined to be alive, in order to improve the quality of life for actual lives is far more important than "the principle of the matter of playing god". Don't take antibiotics/medicine the next time you get really ill or have surgery to insert stints in your heart, God wanted you to die. Right?
ps I'm a woman and I'm pretty good at rationalizing.... most of the time _________________ chance favors the prepared mind |
