billyjodonjimbo, omg dude. I've never thought of an electric winch but that is a great idea. wakeskaters definitely need to start finding a way to go green. definitely not going to be able to throw gas into a ski/boat or winch forever. something that has been on my mind since i started skiing

yup definitely doable and would run super silent for stealth missions.

Alot more torque available at lower rpm's as well, so easy deep water starts.

Only sketchy thing is you probably need more than 12 Volts to get a enough power out of it, so it could get a little sketch working it near water.

me and my co-workers, who are electrical engineers, have been talking about building one for months now. We will get around to it once we don't have to work so freakin much.

what kinda battery would u need...cause i know sony makes laptop battereis that run for days now and all that but it seems like you would need alot more juice, it would be sick for sure though if you could work it into a small and light package

Yes you can silence a winch, for Burning Man my crew has several 6.5 Honda gennys. To silence them we used big Lexus mufflers used a reducer flange to mate to the lex pipe. They take an already quiet genny to almost silent. only drawback is the muffler is as big as the motor pretty much. im guessing you could use a smaller muffler but i picked these up from a local lexus club, with the cats attached $$$. Guess they didn't realize thy are worth about $100 a pop, Silly JDM, V.I.P,H.I.D, Organic Crack from Jersey, Import Kids, so much $ so little brains.

yo thanks for all the feedback guys. i would love to see some pics from burning man. that seems like it would be a blast. u so crazy fry. anyway.......if all the parts we're enclosed in some sort of water housing i'm guessing it would work. in fact i thought somebody was talking about an electric winch on here last year....it just seems one of the major hurdles when it comes to winching is finding an incognito spot...........stealth missions ftw!
